Happy Holidays to everyone!

It's that time of the year when we nominate outstanding members of our transportation community, extraordinarily committed WTS members, and superior employers for the WTS NC Triangle Chapter recognition program. Check the awards and criteria on our website, and submit your nominations. We will recognize and honor all the recipients at our annual Go Gala event.

As the year comes to an end, the chapter is gearing up for its annual planning retreat. We will spend a weekend together planning some great events for next year and developing programs to provide our members with opportunities to network, get involved and give back. Check this space for more information next month.

Also, check our website for our latest events, and we hope to see you at the next event in 2015!

Future City Competition 2015

Future Cities, a national project-based learning experience for students in grades 6, 7 and 8, is looking for industry professionals to volunteer for the competition in January. WTS NC Triangle Chapter supports the Future Cities program, in which students imagine, design and build cities of the future. Students work in teams with an educator and engineer mentor using SimCity™ software. Each team researches and writes solutions to an engineering problem, builds tabletop scale models with recycled materials, and present their ideas to  judges at the Regional Competition, which will be held Jan. 24 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. Regional winners represent their regions at the National Finals in Washington, D.C., in February. More information on how to volunteer can be found here.

WTS Award Nominations

Anyone can submit a nomination for an award in the following categories: Member of the Year, Woman of the Year, Employer of the Year, Rosa Parks Diversity/Leadership, Innovative Transportation Solutions, Community Activist/Organizer and Rookie of the Year. Nominations must be received by Jan. 7, and the winners will be announced at the chapter's Go Gala event in May 2015. Professional Connections

For those looking for networking opportunities within the Chapter, consider joining the Professional Connections program. Each quarter, the members of the program are split into groups of four or five, and each group plans a lunch meeting. This is a good way to meet others and learn about their careers, hobbies and interests. For more information, or to sign up, contact  Karen Reynolds.

Volunteers Needed

The chapter's Communications Committee is looking for volunteers willing to help with its mission of getting the word out about WTS and the local chapter.
