During a joint Work Session this past Monday, Town Council and Commissioners took a look at our newly adopted Comp Plan, specifically the housing element, and discussed how to implement the plan to maintain the vision when developers present applications. This coming Monday, the Board of Trustees and Town Council will have back-to-back meetings. After the BOT Meeting, Council will conduct a Public Hearing and consider an application for rezoning of 1480 Dove Road, from R-1 “Estate Residential” to PD 6 (A 10 lot, “one dwelling per acre density” single-family residential Planned Development. Westlake's new outdoor warning sirens have been installed and are operational. They are located at Davis Blvd. and Dove Road, Ottinger Road at Westlake Academy, and on Roanoke Road near TD Auto Finance. Regular monthly testing will begin April 1 and will be conducted every month on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. Testing will not be conducted during periods of severe weather threats.

A HUGE thank you is in order to Deloitte University for another substantial gift to our Westlake Fire Department! Representatives from Deloitte University stopped by Westlake Town Hall earlier this month to deliver a $10,000 check that will be used to purchase testing equipment for their breathing apparatus.

Last year, Deloitte University generously donated $10,000 for a live fire extinguisher training system. The corporation is also generous to our police force. On Feb. 5, Deloitte University Managing Director Pete Sackleh stopped by Keller Town Hall to deliver a $10,000 donation for the purchase and training of the next K-9 officer puppy. Rowdy, a Belgian Malinois, retired in February after a decorated nine-year career.

DFW Airport will close Runway 18L/36R at 10:45 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. tomorrow. This period will be used to upgrade the runway distance remaining signs.

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Westlake Academy its Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation. The award is given only to school districts that have met or exceeded the Meritorious Budget Award criteria.

To earn this award, the school district submitted its 2014–2015 budget for review. Developed by ASBO for school districts, the MBA criteria guides school business officials toward a quality school budget presentation by enhancing the skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget.Congrats to our awesome Finance Department for their hard work!
