Green Line Launch on June 14 |
Join Textile Center in Celebrating the Grand Opening of the Green Line
Saturday June 14, 2014, 10 am - 4 pm
Free and open to the public
Textile Center and Weavers Guild of MN will host a train-load of community art activities to celebrate the launch of the METRO Green Line and the Prospect Park Station located across the street. The festivities include World Wide Knit in Public Day, with participants knitting outside Textile Center as the trains go by. Don't know how? Artists will teach finger- and arm-knitting and kumihimo weaving in the lobby. Follow the trail of hand-spinners as they spin specialty raw fibers⎯including the shed fur from LIVE angora rabbits⎯into yarn. Visit the new Cornsterstone Garden to create milkweed "seed bombs" used to grow natural dye plants. Then, see the dye lab at Textile Center, where such plants can be used for dyeing fabrics and other fibers.
For more information, check out our website.

Warming the Room: Finnish-American Rug Weaving
Textile Center Community Gallery and studio
June 12 - July 12, 2014
Wynne Mattila and Nedra Granquist are of Finnish-American descent and grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which has the largest concentration of Finnish immigrants in the U.S. In keeping with the Finnish and Finnish-American aesthetic, both artists are frequently inspired by nature. They feel a deep connection with their heritage and are passionate about passing on traditional rug weaving techniques. At the same time, each have developed strong individual artistic identities through their choices of color and design, as is illustrated by this vibrant exhibition of more than 20 rugs. >>More

Seeking Volunteers for Community Weaving Project
Saturday June 7, 10 - 5 pm
St. Anthony Park Arts Festival (Carter and Como area in St. Paul)
The Energy Resilience Group (ERG), part of the St. Anthony Park Community Council, does community-building and local sustainability projects with the overarching goal of mitigating and adapting to climate change. This year they have an upcycling theme. Bypassers at the festival can help rip rags and weave a few rows on a rag rug. The resulting rug will be displayed in several places in the neighborhood afterward, and the project will be reprised at the Raymond Ave Station on the day of the Green Line Launch. We are looking to have volunteers around the loom, teaching, talking, working with kids, ripping rags, etc. To volunteer on June 7, contact: [email protected]

We've just taken over the lot behind 3014 University (formerly Nano/Logic Systems). The 17 new spaces are marked for visitors to Textile Center. Look for the bright yellow signs with our logo, the new yellow lines on the pavement marking the spots, and the words "Textile Center Parking Only" on the pavement to guide you to the right spots.
