Frank's Motivational Message

Brace Yourselves. Winter is coming.

Don't look know, but its coming. The busiest time of the year is almost upon us and now is the time to get back on track. Before you know it there will be holiday parties, vacations, house guests, school functions, and a million other activities piling up on your calendar. While all of these events are great, I don't want you to forget about leaving some room for yourself because we want you running on all cylinders all the time.

Todd Durkin (Elite Personal Trainer) says it best: "I know you have been busy. Just. Get. Started. Again. Even a 15-20 minute workout awakens the energy, regulates hormones, and releases chemicals like endorphins that naturally boost energy and mood. And do that most days of the week.  This can include walking, jogging, lifting weights, hiking, or any other vigorous activity that elevates your heart rate."

Before your calendar starts to overflow with a ton of 'things-to-do', make sure you pencil in some time for yourself so you can take care of your mind, body, and spirit.

Power Performer
of the Month:
Hollis Wilder

What's the biggest change you have noticed physically or mentally since you started training at Workout 32789?

Physically I did not think that I could ever get back to my fighting weight or body.  I was looking to reconnect with 32789 after not working out for 3 years, I was just too busy and taking care of myself was not a priority. Until I was depressed from not allowing my body to feel the burn. Mentally I have new focus and a new perspective on fitness, Chris has really listened to me because I am not afraid to tell on myself.  In my opinion if you don't tell the truth about yourself when you know it than when you need help the teacher will not appear.

What's your favorite part of working out?

I love that my body and mind are in sync and that I have personal power and strength that get's me through the 23 hours after I leave 32789.

When did you realize it was time to make a change in your life?

When I was sleeping more, not fitting into my clothes, not wanting to do the work to get back into the gym.

What did you hope to accomplish since you started training at Workout 32789?

I wanted to tone, I wanted to put middle age out of my vocabulary, I wanted to feel attractive again.

Congratulations Hollis Wilder!

You are this month's Power Performer, keep up the great work!!

Recipe of the Month
Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

This healthy pumpkin smoothie is like chilled pumpkin pie in a glass, but without the fat and calories. This thick and creamy smoothie makes a delicious and filling liquid breakfast or an energy-boosting 'snack.' Be sure to use a very ripe banana, preferably frozen, and sweeten your smoothie according to your preference.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 very ripe medium-sized banana
  • 3/4 cup fat-free vanilla yogurt (I used Oikos 0% fat Greek vanilla yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed ice
Directions:

Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth, making sure the ice is completely crushed.

Makes two servings
