April Marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Jackson Memorial Hospital, home to the Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center, is raising awareness of sexual violence by hosting educational outreach events during the month throughout Miami-Dade County.

Established in 1974, the Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center is the only center of its kind in Miami-Dade County. It is named after women's rights activist and Florida Women's Hall of Fame inductee, Roxcy O'Neal Bolton.

"Jackson Memorial Hospital is like a lighthouse at sea to ships," Roxcy O'Neal Bolton said. "Ships look out towards a lighthouse for direction and that is what the center is to victims of assault."

Over the years, more than 48,000 victims have been helped at the Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center. The center provides emotional and medical support - in a completely confidential setting - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual assault, or if you have questions or need help, call the confidential hotline at 305-585-RAPE (7273). Help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
