Meet Sault Ste. Marie
Walk Champion
Marci

Marci was only 16 when she learned that a birth defect in her bladder was causing her kidneys to fail. Marci was lucky - she spent only a month on dialysis in 1990 before a donor kidney was found and she received a kidney transplant. After her recovery, she was committed to helping raising awareness and support for kidney health and organ donation.

Finding local event information has never been easier New Portal

Last month, The Kidney Foundation launched new Chapter pages to help make it easier to find out what's going on in your community.

Visit www.kidney.ca/ontario/chapters and select the Chapter near you. Bookmark it, so you can check back often.

No longer is a suntan considered a healthy look. With the depletion of the ozone layer, which filters ultraviolet (UV) light, there is an increased incidence of skin cancer in the general population. As a transplant recipient you are even more vulnerable because your immune system is suppressed. Your risk of developing skin cancer will be much greater if you do not protect yourself.

Memorial donations are one way people pay tribute to the lives of their loved ones. It's a simple yet powerful way to make a difference and support a cause close to the heart. But did you know that you can make an unwanted car a memorial tribute?

"Each year, Kidney Car receives close to 200 cars in memory of loved ones, and that number seems to be growing," said Dave Cybulski, Kidney Car Manager. "The process is easy from start to finish. A phone call with our Kidney Car team and your unwanted car will be towed away in a few short days."

Health, Coping and Quality of Life for People with Chronic Kidney Disease and Their Family Members
Are you currently on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis? Have you received a kidney transplant? Are you a family member of someone on hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis or living with a kidney transplant?

If you answered "yes" to one of these questions, would you be willing to tell us about your quality of life? We are interested in having you participate in a study being conducted by faculty members and a postdoctoral fellow from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing.

The purpose of this national study is:

- to explore how symptoms affect quality of life for people living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), transplants, and family members of those with CKD/transplants; and
- to explore how approaches to coping affect the impact of symptoms, and quality of life for people with CKD/transplants and their families.

You will be asked to complete a survey online. It will take you approximately 30 minutes of your time. If you complete the full survey, you will be entered to win an iPad mini! You will have a 1 in 1000 chance to win. Findings of this study will be made available through the Kidney Foundation of Canada website.
