Talking Points

 I-70 "Cut and Cover"

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is proposing modifications of I-70 to improve mobility through the two mile section between Brighton and Colorado Blvds.  The Partial Covered Lowered Alternative will increase the existing 6 lanes to twelve, including 4 toll lanes.  The current elevated section that splits the Elyria neighborhood would be built below ground and then covered between Columbine and Clayton Streets.  This ground level cover is planned to offer amenities such as parks, playgrounds and community gardens.  Opposition to the project suggests conducting a study to evaluate the possibility of re-routing I-70 northward along I-270 to I-76.

The public review and comment period will remain open until October 14, 2014.  For more information, please visit www.I-70east.com.

ACED will host CDOT and the High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HTPE) at its October Transportation Taskforce meeting for its members to discuss this project.  For information about how ACED is involved, please contact Tricia Allen at TAllen@AdamsCountyED.com.
