 Injury Prevention

SCIA offers Think First, a national brain and SCI prevention program. Volunteers who are spinal cord injured go to local schools, libraries,  community centers, and  other groups to offer prevention information and discuss their personal experiences.The program is presented free of charge. If you would like to learn more, or schedule a program, contact SCIA.

The Voluntary Emergency Assistance Registry for People With Disabilities or Special Needs

The City of Chicago's Voluntary Emergency Assistance Registry was created to provide police, fire and other emergency personnel with important information about the type of assistance people with disabilities and seniors would need in an emergency. 

You can register two ways:

U.S. Veterans Recreation and Education Camp for Individuals with SCI/D

The U.S. Military Veterans Recreation and Education Camp for individuals with Spinal Cord Injury or Disease ( SCI/D) is scheduled for March 30 to April 2, 2015 at the University of Arizona.  All camp and travel-related costs for veterans are covered by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Education Foundation Grant #731.  The application deadline is January 5, 2015.

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) 

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is an employee contributing payroll program.  Every employee of the federal government can participate in this program.  Spinal Cord Injury Association of Illinois is a participating charity.  Our CFC number is 48552. If you know a federal employee interested in contributing to our charity, please pass our information along!

Survey for SCI/D Mobile App Development

Our friends at United Spinal Association are currently in the early stages of developing a mobile app that is aimed at managing the daily tasks and regimens of the SCI/D community.  If you have a moment, take part in their survey to give your input.

Park District Adaptive Sports Programs

Watch for your neighborhood park district's fall brochure for adapted sports programs in your community.  Some adapted sports activities may include Sled Hockey, Wheelchair Softball, or Power Soccer.  Many programs are through the Special Recreation Association.  Stay active in your community today!
