JANUARY, 2014
Dear Friends,

It's January and time for another edition of our electronic newsletter.  We're always excited to share positive news associated with the BCH Foundation and hope you enjoy learning more about what's been happening.

Change is not always something easy for us to accept -- as individuals or organizations. In fact, it can be downright painful!  But as Benjamin Franklin once said, "When you are finished changing, you're finished."

The BCH Foundation has embraced many changes over the past few years and will continue to do so in the future.  Stories in this issue of "The Contributor" highlight some of the changes that have occurred and the new opportunities we are pursuing.  We are certainly not ready to be "finished" just quite yet!

It's because of help from people like you that the BCH Foundation continues to thrive. Thank you for being a "contributor" and an important partner in our efforts to support the healthcare needs in our community.

Sincerely,

Sam Rennick
Intensifying the Impact
Sterling Connection has a new home!
With the departure of Deb Whaley, longtime coordinator of the Sterling Connection, the BCH Foundation has assumed responsibility for this wonderful program designed to enrich the lives of people over 50.  "We hope to serve the needs of our members throughout Gage County and surrounding area," offers Melinda Chleboun, Coordinator of the Sterling Connection program.  "Already, we've hosted a very fun holiday gathering in December as well as an informative presentation in January using a new "brunch and learn" format.
Recent changes on the Foundation Board of Directors
Two stalwart members of the BCH Foundation Board have attended their final 7:00 a.m. board meeting.  Kathleen Epp, former CFO of the hospital, and Dick Goertzen, area farmer, stepped down from the Board in December after many years of combined service.  "Their contributions are too many to count, said Sam Rennick, Executive Director.  "Dick and Kathleen are very dedicated members of the community and I'm sure will find other ways to continue to serve the hospital."

Beginning terms in January as new members of the Board of Directors are Dr. Dale Kruse, Wayne Brinkmeyer, and Don Harmon.  Dale is a former superintendent of the Beatrice Public Schools, Wayne is an active member of the agricultural community, and Don is a Physician's Assistant who works primarily in Wymore.  Learn more about our Board of Directors.
Hospital Staff Support 2014 "Catch the Glow"
For the past thirteen years, "Catch the Glow" has been one of the most well attended activities in Beatrice each December.  "We always get such great support from the community," beamed Rich Hovendick, Foundation Board President, "but what makes this year even more special is the incredible involvement of hospital employees!"  Staff at the hospital and local clinics donated auction items, created gift baskets, volunteered on the planning committee and, most importantly, attended the event.

Proceeds from "Catch the Glow" each year are used by the Foundation to support a variety of significant healthcare related programs for the community.  Those programs include Ready,Set,Go!, the annual Health Fair, First Grade Hospital Tours, "Evening in Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness, and hospital equipment needs, as well as other community projects.  Find out more about all our community projects.
