Tampa Bay Times: New York firm iQor moving its international headquarters to St. Petersburg

A New York company with more than 32,000 employees worldwide is moving its international headquarters to downtown St. Petersburg. More than 100 employees of iQor U.S. are expected to move into three floors at the Tower at One Progress Plaza, 200 Central Ave., in January, the global outsourcing company said Tuesday. [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Times: Editorial: Delay on Rays stadium deal won't change reality

A one-week delay in the St. Petersburg City Council's vote on an agreement between Mayor Rick Kriseman and the Tampa Bay Rays to break the stadium stalemate is not the end of the world. It also is not an indication that the reasonable compromise is going to get substantially better. Instead, the delay gives residents time to get comfortable with the deal to let the Rays look for stadium sites in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, and it gives council members an opportunity to reflect on the importance of acting in the best interests of St. Petersburg and the region. [Read full article]

Tampa Tribune: Editorial: Rays stadium agreement offers best chance to keep team in this market

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has struck a reasonable deal with the Tampa Bay Rays that compensates the city while giving the team the freedom to search for the best site for a new baseball stadium. In striking the deal, Kriseman has put parochial politics aside for the greater good of the Tampa Bay area. He should be commended. [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Times: Romano: Kriseman's deal with Rays is about more than just the cash

The money doesn't add up, and there's no getting around that. If you consider that hundreds of millions of dollars in government funds may soon be devoted to the building of a new baseball stadium on one side of the bay or the other, it makes no sense that the current lease at Tropicana Field could possibly be bought off by the Tampa Bay Rays for a measly $3 million a year.   [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Times: Clutch Hitters urge St. Petersburg council to approve stadium deal with Rays

The Clutch Hitters, a business group formed six years ago to support the Tampa Bay Rays, urged the St. Petersburg City Council this week to approve Mayor Rick Kriseman's proposed stadium search agreement with the team. The council will vote Thursday on the deal, which provides annual payments to the city of $2 million to $4 million if the team plays in a new stadium before its contract on Tropicana Field expires in 2027.  [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Times: Daniel Ruth: Neighborhood associations encouraged to make positive changes

You hear that tired old saw all the time about how you can't fight city hall, or the little guy doesn't stand a chance against powerful, entrenched interests. But that is complete balderdash, unless of course John Q. Citizen simply likes getting trampled upon. If you want to know where the seeds of grass roots civic activism take their most basic root, you need to look no further than the idea of strong, vibrant - and vocal - neighborhood associations. This is really where the proverbial rubber meets the political road.  [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Times: Warehouse Arts District gets needed city cash for affordable studio space

A fledgling effort to create affordable studio space for artists in a neighborhood under intense development pressure got a crucial bit of cash. Thursday from the City Council. The proposed Warehouse Arts Enclave would convert a 50,000-square-foot collection of six aging warehouses and industrial space on nearly 3 acres into studio and teaching space. [Read full article]

Tampa Tribune: Chile trade mission brings immediate business results

With no domestic car manufacturers, roads in Chile are full of imported cars from the United States, Europe and Asia. When transmissions wear out, replacements typically come not from assembly lines but from junk yards, a symptom of the country's limited manufacturing base.

That may turn out to be great news for Monster Transmission and Performance, a Brooksville parts manufacturer that accompanied local elected leaders to the South American country last week and is hoping to line up a contract with a major parts distributor.. [Read full article]
