CELF's Summer Institute helps educators re-think the meaning of their work by learning to integrate the big ideas of sustainability into existing K-12 curriculum across all subject areas.  Dynamic break-out sessions led by content experts from  Harvard Graduate School of Education, Westchester Land Trust, Mt. Sinai Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit will spark robust discussion. Manhattanville College, July 20-23/4.

CONGRATS TO OUR NYC PARTNER SCHOOLS  for creating a successful sustainability fair! Creativity shone through in all projects ranging from student designed and created solar ovens and water filters to mustard greens that students grew and cooked. Experiences with bioswales, the NYC water supply, life cycles of plants, waste management, service learning and community engagement were on display. Science students wowed us with their creative problem solving skills. Green teams and garden clubs showed exemplary commitment to the big ideas of sustainability and excellence in education. Spotlight on SAMs 

Karina Franke's first exposure to the SAM Program was a CELF presentation on global water insecurity during her freshman year of high school. She is now a CELF Student Ambassador and President of the Student Advisory Board. Karina explains her interest, "Through the platform of access to clean water, CELF student ambassadors are moving environmental awareness beyond reduce, reuse, recycle and engaging community members of all ages in environmental justice issues." ...  Read More

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NEPAL:  Part of CELF's mission to make Education for Sustainability part of every K-12 school curricula is the goal to prepare students to be responsible citizens of a global community. School and community groups that donate to the  CELF LifeStraw 
campaign are well on their way: they recognize the inequities in access to clean water and they are taking action to make a difference.

Thanks to donors from around the globe, the CELF LifeStraw campaign recently shipped 15 community water filtration systems to communities affected by the earthquake in Nepal. These will provide 1,500,000 liters of clean drinking water to 750 people for 4 years. Learn more about LifeStraw 

  
 
 
CELF HITS THE ROAD! 
Not just in NY... this year CELF has worked with schools and groups from Concord, MA to New Haven, CT. 
CELF is teaching in Greenpoint, Brooklyn this week and later this fall we head to Los Angeles. Learn more about how we may customize a program for your school, community group or district.
 
 
THE CAMPAIGN FOR SUSTAINABILITY The Board of Directors of CELF is launching a three-year $1.8 million dollar campaign that will build upon CELF's history and success and ensure that CELF has the resources it needs to meet demand to:
  • Build capacity to expand number of schools reached per year from 50 to 1,000.
  • Increase number of teachers trained in CELF's program from 7,800 to 30,000. 
  • Replicate our successful NYC "Leadership Training in Sustainability Curriculum" in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District.           donate_now_org_btn.gif 

CELF's mission is to make Education for Sustainability (EfS) an integral part of every school's curricula and culture - from kindergarten through high school - to prepare current and future students to be active and responsible citizens of a sustainable world.
