SPRING FORWARD
WITH NEW SONG!
Spring is coming soon, and with it comes new opportunities and a chance to sing a new song!  What do you want to change about your life in this new season?  Take a look at what is happening at New Song and plan to add worship and other upcoming events to your Spring calendar!   To get started, plan now to join us for a Pizza Party at Tom & Sally Boyd's, THIS Saturday, February 28, immediately after Worship.

Priming the Pump
. . . balanced "me time". . .

According to Greek mythology, when Narcissus beheld a face in a shining pool of water, he fell in love with what he thought was another person.  Unaware that he had, in fact, fallen in love with himself; he became so infatuated that he remained there, gazing fixated, until he died.

It seems that in modern society, it is considered "healthy" for each of us to increase the love of ourselves.  Therapists often strive to help us more fully love ourselves.

I suppose many of us could benefit from a more accurate view of ourselves.  We've all seen the illustration where the slender well-proportioned girl is looking at her reflection... but what she "sees" is a very fat person in the mirror. She interprets what she sees as flaws and inflates them to ridiculous proportions.

Although professionals encourage us to make our "me time" sacred, I think we'd still be wise to seek an appropriate balance.  The best paradigm might possibly be found in the safety instructions shared by airline flight attendants concerning oxygen masks.  Flight attendants instruct us to first secure the mask over ourselves...and then to affix the masks over our children.

Yes, we need to take care of ourselves...but why?  We are to care for ourselves, so that we might be better able to care for others.  Affixing the oxygen mask to ourselves, allows us to better care for the children traveling with us.

Let's find a healthy balance in life, by caring for both ourselves and others.

No water today...just priming the pump

Mosaic Making at Gateway 180

On March 21st from 10-11 am, we will be helping kids at Gateway180 make mosaics and paint flower pots for their annual gala in April.  All supplies will be provided and any level of artistic talent is welcome! This is a good opportunity for kids middle-school-age and older to participate, too! To join the fun, please contact Jenny Bosworth at the above address or 314-494-4254.

Let's Make Sandwiches!
Nothing against Subway, but I think we proved this past November that we have the best "Sandwich Artists" around! Let's put those skills to work again on March 21st  after worship for another evening of  fun, fellowship, and food preparation as we make brown bag lunches to benefit Gateway180 and the surrounding community.  After we assemble the sandwiches, we plan to head out to Fortel's Pizza on Ballas for dinner!

Because Gateway180 provides meals every single day for folks in the shelter and surrounding neighborhood, New Song Church is stepping up to commit to making 65-70 brown bag meals every third Saturday of the month-March 21, April 18, and May 16. We need sandwich bread, deli meat, sliced cheese, peanut butter, jelly, chips, drinks, and granola bars...please let Jenny Bosworth know if you can help with supplies by emailing her at the above address or calling/texting her at 314-494-4254.

Volunteer for Autism Education!

A group of New Song members are volunteering to help out at Center for Autism's Trivia Night on March 27th. Money raised at the event goes to supplement programs for the Center's preschool, the school, and the adult day services. If you are interested in volunteering at the event or if you would like to reserve a table to play trivia, please contact Laura Roy at [email protected] or 636-949-0124.

Haven House Valentine Recap
On Feb 12th,  I dropped off the personal care items we collected for Haven House, along with the handmade Valentines made by our young members at SuperSaturday.  Haven House provides housing, meals, laundry, shuttle services, and much more to patients and their families who have traveled to the St. Louis area to receive medical care.  Thank you so much for donating those much-needed items to a wonderful organization.  I would especially like to thank the kids for helping to spread God's love on Valentine's Day to families who are going through a difficult time.
- Jenny Bosworth, Missions Coordinator

Dear New Song Church,

On behalf of HavenHouse, I would like to thank you for your recent donation of toiletries and toilet paper.  Your belief in our mission to provide a home-away-from-home to patients and their families as they undergo crucial medical treatment in St. Louis is truly appreciated.

Your commitment to HavenHouse means so much to me, and to the people we serve.  You're making a difference.

Warmest regards,

Kathy Sinder

Nurturing Children & Youth

SuperSaturday is March 7, 6:30 - 8:30

SuperKids (Teens and Tweens) will continue their study of the Parables with the Parable of the Two Builders based on Luke 14:25-35 and Matthew 7:24-27. Special guest Amanda Holguin, an architect, will bring blue prints and teach the children how to build strong and useful buildings.

SuperKids will also continue their service to others by getting Easter Eggs ready for the annual New Song Easter Egg Hunt.  It would be appreciated if some "bunnies" would bring a package of plastic Easter Eggs to fill.  Thanks!

Super Songbirds'(ages 4-9) topic will be A House for God.  They will learn about churches and their functions by touring the church and build churches of their own. We can't wait to see their designs!

Dinner and closing worship will also be included in the evening.

Save These Dates for upcoming SuperSaturdays!

Palm Parade March 28

Children of all ages are invited to participate in New Song's Palm Parade commemorating Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.  The procession will take place at the beginning of worship on Saturday, March 28.  Children should gather at 5:20 in the foyer to get a palm branch and instructions. After the procession and Children's Sermon, children may join their family in worship or go to child care.  Babes in arms also welcome!

Annual New Song  Easter Egg Hunt

Young children are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt after worship on March 28th!  We'll gather for the hunt immediately after worship in the lower level foyer. Weather permitting, the hunt will be outside.  Bring baskets and cameras for this fun event for the whole church family.

Gathering For Worship
Lent - the 6 Week Season Before Holy Week

Between now and Easter, the church is in the season of Lent. To help us in our journey toward Easter, Rex's sermons will focus upon numerous spiritual keys to open our hearts and minds to spiritual awakening.

Palm Saturday, March 30

On March 30th our worship experience at 5:30pm will focus upon Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem prior to his death on the cross.  Please join us for worship as our children parade into worship with waving palm fronds.

Maundy Thursday, April 2

Although New Song celebrates communion each week, we offer an annual Maundy Thursday worship which places a unique focus upon Jesus' last supper with his disciples.  Please join us for worship at 7pm on Thursday, April 2 as we pause to reflect upon the significance of Jesus' amazing love for each of us.

Easter Sunday, April 5
As is our custom at New Song, we will meet to celebrate the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday, April 5 at 9 am.  This is our only morning worship service during the year.  Please remember that we will not have worship the evening before.

Pie-R-Great
3.14.15
In math class we were taught an equation for determining a circle's circumference that depended upon the number pi (3.1415).  Well, only once every 100 years does our calendar have a day whose date is pi (3.14.15).  And since that date corresponds this century with one of our worship dates, we plan a special celebration.  (Yeah, we love pie...we're always looking for a reason to party!)  Anyway, following worship on March 14, we'll have a great pie celebration.  Bring your favorite savory pie, or your favorite fruit pie, or your favorite pudding pie...you get the idea.  For more information, contact Michael Jennings:

New Song Family Dinner
March 21
After worship and our sandwich-making mission event, we will all meet at Fortel's Pizza on Ballas to enjoy a meal together.

New Song Family Dinner
April 18
Please plan to come at 5:30 for worship, help with our sandwich-making mission, and then gather at The Wolf, at Clayton and Kehr's Mill, for a meal together.

GNO Save the Date!
April 24
Ice and sleet prevented us from going to Mission Taco and Bailey's Chocolate Bar in February, so let's try again and hope for warm enough weather to sit outside!  Girl's Night Out will be April 24th.  Details coming soon.
