Take Action Today!

Tell Congress to Support SNAP!

Next week, Congress is poised to begin consideration of its FY2016 Budget Resolution - and SNAP (CalFresh in California) is being targeted. SNAP has extraordinary strengths, yet disastrous changes are being proposed, including block granting and deep cuts. It is fundamentally important that Congress takes action to preserve and protect the very features of SNAP that make it the most effective tool for providing individuals and families with resources for food.

Join CFPA in asking our California Congress members to support SNAP! There are two simple ways you can show your support:

1) Sign and share the "Support SNAP" petition before March 24. link

2) Email or call your Representative! The most effective way to tell Congress to preserve and protect SNAP benefits for the most vulnerable Californians is to express your opposition to any Budget proposals intended to weaken SNAP. Do that today by contacting your Congress members and telling them to protect SNAP benefits.

New Resources:

Proposed CACFP Meal Pattern

On January 9, 2015, USDA released a proposed rule to update the CACFP meal pattern to better align it with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This proposal is the first major update of the CACFP meal pattern since the program's inception in 1968.

To help bring a diverse California voice to the comments USDA receives on the proposed CACFP meal pattern, CFPA has developed a package of resources to assist commenters. All resources can be found on CFPA's website and more tools will be added in the coming weeks.

  • Watch a recording of CFPA's recent webinar, CACFP Meal Pattern Webinar: What Californians Need to Know to Comment. link
  • Learn how to comment with this CFPA-developed fact sheet. PDF
  • Sample comments will be posted soon!

Don't forget: USDA is requiring all comments on the proposed rule must be submitted by April 15, 2015.
