NEWS & NOTES      Your March connection to True Friends

Spring is officially here, and summer camp is just around the corner! We are in full camp-prep mode with many new and exciting projects, like the multi-sensory room at Camp Friendship and a high ropes course at Camp Courage. Our weekend respite program is making the best of the unpredictable weather by enjoying the sunshine, while it lasts, and being creative indoors when it cools down.

Pictured at left (top) is Brent, who has been perfecting his billiard skills. The campers also have talent shows, play cards and do science experiments like creating snow volcanoes and making their own bouncy balls.

Summer camp will be here before you know it. Don't miss the fun, sign up for a summer session today using our new online application

Camper StoryCamperStory

Maren attended Literacy Camp at Camp Courage last summer. Literacy Camp is a collaboration with True Friends, the MN Department of Education and the Center for Literacy and Disabilities Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The program provides professional assistance to students struggling with literacy, while giving them a classic camp experience.

Maren is a senior at Irondale High School and will graduate this spring. Her camp activities include swimming, arts and crafts, archery and her all-time favorite, horseback riding. She most enjoys the campfire and the talent show, when she dances to the song 'Gangnam Style.' One of Maren's favorite memories from camp is swimming in the lake with her friends.

True Friends staff recently attended a Timberwolves game to accept a $5,000 grant from the team's Read to Achieve program. These funds will benefit Literacy Camp. Learn more about this program and see pictures from the check presentation here

Though their event was changed last minute from 'Dance with Courage' to 'Craft with Courage' the dancers and supporters of Dance Arts Centre raised $28,000 for campers in need! This amazing number blew past their event goal of $20,000. After cancelling their appearance at the Mall of America, the Centre improvised a new event that brought everyone together to craft. The event still featured the Father/Daughter dance and other fun activities. Check out all of the details on their Facebook page.

Thank you Dance Arts Centre dancers, donators and supporters!

The Foundation For Challenged Children's board members visited True Strides recently. They are an organization providing scholarships to True Strides riders who are without means to pay. They presented the team with a check that will allow three riders to continue lessons for the next month! Hayden, one of True Strides' star riders, was gracious enough to accept the check with a big smile and 'THANK YOU!' Read more about our True Strides program online or on Facebook!
