WEST GOSHEN TO RECEIVE SAFE, RELIABLE WATER SYSTEM
For the last 18 months, residents of West Goshen have lived with water that has unsafe levels of nitrates and a faulty community well that could fail at any minute - risking the health and safety of the entire community.

SHE, Cal Water, and the California Department of Public Health came together to reach a real solution to a very real problem. SHE's Community Development department secured $3.4 million in grants that are funding construction to bring clean, reliable water to the homes in West Goshen.

Construction of the first phase that installed a mile and a half long pipe connecting West Goshen's system to Goshen's Cal Water system has been completed. The second phase of the project will replace the existing water system piping and meters will be installed at every property.

Residents will be able to drink from their taps and enjoy this long-term solution by mid-May.

11 DINUBA FAMILIES MOVE IN TO
NEW HOMES

On March 21, SHE held a celebration ceremony for 11 Dinuba families who completed the construction of their new homes. These hardworking families, who spent the last 10 months helping each other build their homes, received the keys to their single-family homes built under the mutual self-help method of construction.

The completion of the latest 11 homes brings a total of 88 homes to Dinuba since the first self-help houses were constructed in 1967.

VOLUNTEERS HELP FAMILIES BUILD HOMES
Members from the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin as well as student and faculty volunteers from two schools in California recently helped 19 families with the construction of their homes at our self-help building site in Goshen.

On March 29, students in grades six through twelve from the Anglican Diocese volunteered with SHE as part of the Give Youth Event, a day where students give a helping hand to the local community. Students from UC Berkeley spent one day, March 26, of their spring break working with SHE participants. The workday was part of the week-long UC Alternative Break program where students explore social issues through meaningful service. For the second year, SHE was honored to have the junior class and faculty from Midland School in Los Olivos, CA working alongside families. The students and faculty joined the SHE team from March 31 through April 3 as part of their Experiential Week Service Learning.

Volunteers, with the guidance of a SHE construction superintendent, assisted with framing walls, sheathing roofs, and electrical fixtures. Thank you to the volunteers for so generously donating their time and labor!

RESIDENTS STAY HEALTHY WITH ZUMBA CLASSES

The Goshen Women's Association (GWA), based out of SHE's Goshen Village I and II Multi-Family community centers, has steadily grown in depth and scope, carrying on the mission from their Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) roots. In 2012, FHCN strategically organized and implemented a grassroots "Train the Trainer" program providing free health, nutrition and physical fitness classes to families throughout Goshen. As the program continued, an organic leadership team began to form creating a genuine grassroots women's group in the community. The GWA was formally introduced to the Goshen community in January 2014 and has begun to identify and implement goals within their association.

One of their main priorities is to recruit women into their group to participate in their weekly free exercise classes to help them make better health care choices for their families while staying fit and healthy. The GWA recently hosted a certified Zumba trainer at Goshen Village I. The trainer came from San Francisco's "Vision y Compromiso" exercise not-for-profit organization to provide free "Train the Trainer" classes on Zumba. The entire GWA completed the week-long training and all are now certified Zumba instructors.
