Temporary Public Art Project Proposals 

The City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission and Art on the Outside Subcommittee reviews temporary public art projects on behalf of the City in the fields of visual and performance art, film/video, architecture, design, and emerging/multi-disciplinary practices. West Hollywood Library - Cultural Programming Opportunities The West Hollywood Library campus provides opportunities for Cultural programs and displays within the public areas of the West Hollywood Library Facility. Organizations and individuals are welcome to apply. Proposals are reviewed by a committee using the criteria as described in the guidelines. California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) Master of Arts (MA) program in Aesthetics and Politics presents an intellectual lecture series (WHAP!) about art, architecture, and philosophy.
 
On Friday, December 5, 2014, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., WHAP! will host a panel on the contemporary intertwining of media and politics in the context of new or emerging democracies featuring Marcelo Leiras and Muzammil M. Hussain with Chandra Khan and Mart�n Plot as discussants. The conversation will take place at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. soundSpark is a monthly music series for young children featuring performances by emerging artists made possible through a grant from the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission.

Art on the Outside: Artist Reception, December 6
 
The City of West Hollywood will be hosting artist receptions on Saturday, December 6, 2014 for two of its Art on the Outside projects. The artists will be in attendance and light refreshments will be served.
 
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a reception for Wang Dalong's installation of The Game at West Hollywood Park, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
 
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a reception for Shana Mabari's installation of Illumetric at the Sal Guarriello Veterans' Memorial, located at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive.

Author Talk with Brandon James, December 6
 
Presented by the West Hollywood Library, Brandon James discusses his book Jeanne Carmen: MY WILD, WILD LIFE as a New York Pin Up Queen Trick Shot Golfer & Hollywood Actress. Brandon James documents his mother's encounters and friendships with the famous as well as the infamous, including Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Lenny Bruce, Howard Hughes, Joe DiMaggio, Sam Giancama, Johnny Rosselli, and more.
 
The Author Talk will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Brandon James will be signing copies of his book, available for purchase at the program. Admission is free. Snacks and validated parking will be available.

APLA Writers Workshop Readings, December 6
 
The City of West Hollywood will recognize World AIDS Day 2014 with several events. To conclude the week's commemoration of World AIDS Day 2014, AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) will present APLA Writers Workshop Readings on Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. This free event will feature poignant, harrowing, and hilarious readings from current workshop participants; readings may contain content that is suitable only for adult audiences.

MOCA Talk-Cameron and the LA Counterculture, December 14
 
Join poet, author, and publisher Tosh Berman; artists Jean Ferro and George Herms; and poet David Meltzer for an exploration of Cameron's personal influence and artistic importance. Artist, performer, occultist, and poet Marjorie Cameron Parsons Kimmel (known simply as Cameron) is an under-recognized, and at times misunderstood, figure in the Los Angeles counterculture. Both her artistic and spiritual endeavors are interwoven with (and essential to) the histories of the Los Angeles occult, and avant-garde, and beat culture. Exhibition curator Yael Lipshutz will moderate. Attendees are encouraged to view the exhibition before and after the conversation.
 
This free talk is presented by MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) and hosted by the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission. It will take place on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood's City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

Celebrating New Works: Making Michaela by Michaela Irv, December 16
 
Join Celebration Theatre and the City of West Hollywood on the third Tuesday of each month for readings of new works celebrating the LGBTQ experience. Making Michaela follows Michael from childhood discovery and bullying to family life and transition. When he springs upon his wife and three children his need to transition it is very much a surprise which each family member handles in their own way. The play takes you through their experience as a family as well as Michaela's unique journey as she ventures out into the world to find herself.
 
Making Michaela will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood's City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Validated parking will be available in the West Hollywood Park five-story parking structure.

Puppet Theatre on Wheels: The New Year adventures of Masha and the Bears (in Russian), December 21
 
As part of WeHo East Arts, the City of West Hollywood, through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, has partnered with Puppet Theatre on Wheels to present The New Year adventures of Masha and the Bears in Russian.
 
Masha and the Bears is a very popular fairy tale in the Russian and Slavic cultures. In the United States, this story is known as Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This presentation of The New Year adventures of Masha and the Bears is about the most important values in life, family, and friendship. This free production is presented in Russian with an English synopsis available.
 
The event will take place on Sunday, December, 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the West Hollywood Community Center at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Rooms 1 & 2.

#BOOM! An Alcohol and Drug-Free New Year's Eve Extravaganza, December 31
 
Ring in the New Year with DJ Walter Delmar and enjoy a variety of entertainment, dancing, a drag show, and interactive activities. The 2nd Annual #BOOM! An Alcohol and Drug-Free New Year's Eve Extravaganza, "A Mid Winter's Night Fantasy" will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the evening of Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the West Hollywood Park Auditorium, located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
 
There will be a lounge area with catered food and dessert bar. Admission is free and validated parking limited will be available for early arrivals. Attendees must be 18 or over to enter.
