The time is growing near for the qualifying event for this years EWGA Cup Match Play Event. The venue for this first stage is the Westin Mission Hills, Pete Dye Course, Rancho Mirage, CA, September 13-14. The team representing the Sacramento and Stockton chapters consists of: Captain Kris Corbridge, Kathleen McKilligan, Patricia Ickes, Karen Biscaha, Maryellen Haddock, Betty Lou Beyer, Laura Maupin, and Laura Espinosa.
We have been working hard on practicing match play strategy with emphasis on course management, rules/penalties specific to match play, and improving our short games.
The planning for this event starts early each year, with registrations beginning April 1st for sectionals, which is a first come first serve registration, whereby any chapter can register for the regional of their choice across the country. As we predicted, Rancho Mirage was a very popular destination and the west coast regionals grew from 11 teams last year to 19 this year. Because of this they have divided the event into two qualifiers, with each playing an early and a late shotgun each day. The top 4 teams from each of the Pacific and Western qualifiers will advance to the final event, to be held Dec 7-8 at Troon North, Scottsdale, AZ.
Last year's team finished 5th in the National Championship and we are hoping for an equally successful showing this year. So if you see any of the members of this years team please wish them well as they endeavor to bring home the gold.
