Dear Friend,

Memorial Day weekend really does mark a kind of change in season for us; a shift in activity and focus.  As we remember those who have sacrificed for us, I ask you to consider making a small sacrifice of your time, energy, and gifts.  I had conversations with several student groups this past week about our hope of building a Youth Vestry; a group of 5 students that is interested in really taking ownership of their ministry at St. David's.

You can find the nomination form here: Youth Vestry Nomination Form Please encourage your son or daughter to nominate themselves or another that they feel would represent them well.  I would like to have these by the end of May.  All the considerations and expectations can be found on the form.  I hesitate to offer too much in the way of "what to expect" mainly because I want this team of students to create this themselves, so our canvas is truly blank.

Thank you to our contributors and students for the Care Kit items!  It was a great event and all the students has a great time putting them together.  At last count, we put together over 40 bags to be distributed to our neighbors in and around Austin.  As we took them to the lobby, we had folks there for a separate event asking what they were and could they take some to hand out...of course we said YES!  By the time we left Sunday evening, we had only 8 left!
We will definitely do this again!
Please Pray...

Cross Words

Memorial Day brings around a variety of thoughts. What do you think about? School is coming to a close, seasons are changing and we begin to look to summer. Memorial Day has become the turning point, or kick off of summer time and all the activities that go with it. And those things are so much fun!

Consider this:

"This is how we know love: Jesus laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."
1 John 3:16

Memorial Day was originally "Decoration Day" after the Civil War and was established as a time for the nation to flower, or decorate, the graves of those who died in war. In more recent times it has been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in military service.

Our service men and women lay down their lives for us every day without thought or concern of the politics that surround them. They train, study and engage in practices that keep them focused.

Jesus laid down his life without thought or concern of the politics that surrounded him daily. He prayed, studied and engaged in practices that kept him focused.

I'm not suggesting that we should not enjoy friends, family and the hot dog on the grill on Memorial Day and look forward to the days of summer. I am suggesting that there is always time for us to pray, study and engage in practices that will keep our spirits close to God.

Praying for you a gentle summer breeze...
