Education and Industry Working Together in the

Manufacturing World

Trio wants to be more than your favorite lumber supplier.   We want to be a resource for you.

That's why, we have recently developed a new relationship with the Arizona Manufacturing Partnership, AMP.   AMP, is a collaboration of industry groups, educational entities, state agencies and organizations in partnership with The Manufacturing Institute, to lead the strategic effort to develop a manufacturing workforce and pipeline.

The Partnership is addressing the skills gap with initiatives focused on changing the perception of careers in manufacturing:  re-establishing the U.S. as the global leader of manufacturing education; and advocating for education and job training policies that strengthen the U.S. manufacturing workforce.  This is their call to action.  This is what will make Arizona strong!

We know workforce development i.e.finding and hiring talent  is a huge concern
in several of the industries we serve.  For less than what it costs to run an advertisement, consider attending this targeted job fair filled with only manufacturing companies and individuals looking for specific work in manufacturing.

Manufacturing Companies looking to fill positions, check out more specifics on this event here: Manufacturing Job Fair Information

Phoenix  Housing Starts down 16.6% from Fourth Quarter 2013

Tell me something you don't already know, you say. Well, check out how Phoenix compares to the rest of the nation on Housing Starts and potential factors that will affect 2015.

Boosters for Housing This Year:

1. Loan guidelines eased
2. Job growth likely to continue to rise
3. Depressed household formation rate expected to rise (They are moving out of Mom and Dad's house)
4. Rents are reaching the pain-point
5. Mortgage rates have become even more favorable  (3 percent range for a home loan, really!)

Obstacles for Housing This Year:

1. Mortgages are still difficult to obtain
2. Millennial's are still renting
3. Global economic slowdown
4. Debt-to-Income ratios are still a problem
5. Land prices have encouraged builders to focus mostly on the move-up market

The Lumber Market looks a lot like the bridge photo above, flat on the surface.  What lies ahead and below, nobody knows.

Softwoods Vs Hardwoods

Here's one to stump (pun intended) your co-workers.

Do you know the difference between

Softwoods and Hardwoods?

Hardwoods and softwoods are often times used for the same purposes. Softwoods are generally more affordable, easier to work with, and therefore make up 80% of all timber used in the world. Hardwoods are typically more expensive, can be more challenging to work with because of their density, but will last longer than softwoods.
