Sow Zapatista GMO-free corn seeds of resistance in your garden and join the worldwide movement against genetically modified food!

Sowing the seeds of resistance!

In the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas, the people are resisting the spread of GMO's by only planting corn seed from known sources.  These Zapatista farming families are also educating their communities about the dangers of GMO's, planting hertage seeds in an international grow-out program, and field testing for GMO contaminations.  For more information about this moment please click here.

For years Zapatista farmers have been giving their corn seed away to interested growers everywhere to build sanctuaries of goodwill and of GMO-free Zapatista corn. In exchange, we ask you to donate the price of one GMO test kit ($7.00) to help support the ongoing resistance to GMO. These small field testing units provide a rough gage of GMO contamination and can be used by the small farmers of Chiapas themselves.

The very existence of today's autonomous Mayan communities, including their culture and language, depends on the cultivation of natural, traditional, and GMO-free corn in the milpa (traditional Mayan corn plot).

Schools for Chiapas has been working with Zapatista communities for many years to identify and eradicate all GMO contaminations in their corn plantations.  Join us!

Celebrating a life of dignity through art!   ?Galeano Vive!

We did it!  A massive mural has been painted in honor of the murdered Zapatista teacher on the rebuilt school and health in La Realidad, Mexico.  Click here to see photos of this beautiful painting accomplished with participation of volunteers from 12 country and local Zapatisa communities!

On May 2, 2014 the autonomous Zapatista school and health clinic in the tiny rural community of La Realidad, Chiapas,  were destroyed and the Zapatista teacher Galeano was murdered in a brutal ambush by government controlled paramilitaries.

Three weeks later on May 24, thousands of people came from Zapatista communities throughout Chiapas, from all over Mexico, and from around the world to express their pain and rage in a powerful public homage to Galeano. In response to the destruction from above, the Zapatista movement chose to reject violence and to rebuild from below.  The newly rebuilt school and health clinic was dedicated on March 1, 2015!

One month later a national and international caravan of about 40 people organized by "Schools for Chiapas / Escuelas para Chiapas" arrived to paint several additional murals in honor of Galeano.

People from 12 countries joined our "Artist in Resistance" Gustavo Ch?vez Pav?n (a.k.a. Guchepe) to create these beautiful mural paintings that are inspired by the tradition of Mexican muralism. We are delighted to share here a brief summary description of the artwork created by this multinational team of women, men and one child alongside the indigenous Zapatista community of La Realidad.

Right now Schools for Chiapas has started a video production that will be screened in at least those 12 countries as a way of spreading solidarity and showing that ?Galeano Vive!

Stay tuned to learn more about this video and other educational tools that we are developing that will help us demonstrate that the construction of the many worlds we want is a process that cannot be stopped.

Sub Commander speaks of Zapatista teacher Galeano

"For us, Zapatistas, the compa?ero teacher Galeano epitomizes an entire anonymous generation within Zapatismo. Anonymous to those on the outside, but for us, the fundamental protagonist in the uprising and in these more than 20 years of rebellion and resistance. It is a generation that, as youth, was part of the so-called social organizations and therefore knew of the corruption and deceitfulness that nurtured their leaders. This generation prepared itself in secrecy, rose up in arms against the supreme government, resisted the betrayals and persecutions alongside us and guided the resistance of the today's generation...
