NYCPM Shines at NY15 Podiatric Clinical Conference

Alumni Events, Faculty Presentations, Prospective Student Luncheon Featured

NY15 is now history. The New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) was well represented at the 2015 New York Podiatric Clinical Conference on January 23-25 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City by a popular booth; a jam-packed, lively reception for alumni; a plethora of speakers, and a well-attended alumni meeting.

At the alumni reception at the NY Clinical Conference were Niral Patel, Current PGY III and Chief Resident; Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81) FACFAS, VP of Academic Affairs and Dean; Julia Rabadi, DPM ('10), former NYCPM resident and current NYCPM faculty member; Samuel Adegboyega, DPM ('06), current NYCPM faculty member; E. Giannin Perez, DPM ('11), former resident, currently in a Foot and Ankle Fellowship.

President Levine Addresses Labor Issues at

38th Annual NLMC Meeting in Florida

The National Labor & Management Conference was founded by Louis L. Levine, President and CEO of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM). He opened the 38th NLMC conference in mid-February in Hollywood, FL with a speech about concerns that he has heard from many in the labor movement. "I urged the participants to rethink what their goals were in the past," he said, "and to reach out more to their memberships in light of the enormous attacks on labor and their contracts." William G. Raisch, BA, MBA 

 

William G. Raisch is the founding Director of the International Center for Enterprise Preparedness (InterCEP) at New York University, established with initial funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as the world's first academic research center dedicated to private-sector risk management and resilience. He has served on NYCPM's Board of Trustees since August 2013. Mr. Raisch also serves as the emergency manager for his home town, the Village of Asharoken, New York. He received his BA (Government and Economics) and MBA from Cornell University. In April, he will run the Boston Marathon with two of his daughters. ... Read more

Physical Therapist Gregory Taylor Honored with High Ranking

Opencare, a web-based service that helps patients find the best health providers in their communities, conducts an annual review that evaluates over 836 physical therapy offices in New York, based on patient reviews from Yelp, Google, RateMDs, Yellow Pages, Opencare and many other review sites. Opencare has just finished its New York Physical Therapy Rankings for 2015 and FCNY's Director of Physical Therapy, Gregory P. Taylor, PT, DPT, is ranked in the Top 20! Congratulations to Gregory and his team of Jessica Botvinick, PT, DPT and Francis Rodriguez, Aide!

First-Time Pass Rate of 95.5% for Class of 2015

Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81), FACFAS, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, is pleased to report that 88 members of the Class of 2015 sat for the administration of the Part II written APMLE exam, and out of these 88 first-time takers, 84 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 95.5%. "I have just learned that the national pass rate for first-time takers was 87.9%," he said, making this "a truly splendid job by 2015. Let's all give them a big round of applause. Let's also recognize the clinical faculty who prepared them well."

Tim Miller, '15, to Receive Graduate Merit Award

Michael J. Trepal, DPM ("81), FACFAS, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, has announced that "after careful analysis by Thomas DeLauro, DPM ('81) and Loretta Logan, DPM ('89), with review by Susan Rice, DPM ('88), chair of the scholarship committee, we are pleased to announce that Timothy Miller, Class of 2015, is the recipient of the 

 

2015 American Board of Podiatric Medicine scholarship, the Graduate Merit Award." The formal presentation will take place at Commencement on May 27.  

    "Congratulations to Tim," Dr. Trepal continued. "It was a difficult decision to make, given the many fine candidates in the Class of 2015.  I know that he will continue to make us proud." 

Naeemah Ruffin, '16, Helps Plan

Better Inter-professional Communications

Naeemah Ruffin, '16, was a member of a quality improvement team tasked with assessing communication between medical and specialty-care teams at the Mt. Sinai-East Harlem student-run, attending-supervised free clinic for uninsured East Harlem adults. 

 

Her team developed a standardized template form with pre-programmed prompts on the electronic medical record system designed to streamline communication and allow for shared common goals, diagnoses and care plans. Her team presented its project at the Mount Sinai Grand Rounds on February 3, and her team was invited to present a poster outlining its work at the 2015 Society of Student-Run Free Clinics Conference. Ruffin is also a 2016 Candidate for the dually sponsored DPM-MPH degree offered by NYCPM in association with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
