Chesapeake Conservation Corps Program Hiring
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is proud to announce that applicants are being sought for the 2015-16 Chesapeake Conservation Corps Program, a program that provides service-learning opportunities and green job training for young people through environmental and energy conservation projects.  The Trust matches young adults 18-25 with Maryland nonprofits and government agencies to work full time in the environmental field for a year ($16,000 annually).  This initiative, supported by the Trust, Constellation Energy, National Park Service and the state of Maryland, pairs young adults with organizations that provide hands-on environmental, leadership, and technical training opportunities for a one-year term of service, beginning August 25, 2015.

Mile High Youth Corps Summer of Service Internships 

Mile High Youth Corps in currently hiring youth for positions in our Summer of Service Land Conservation Program.  The Land Conservation Program is the oldest program at Mile High Youth Corps. The Program gives youth the chance to work on a variety of environmental conservation projects such as wildfire mitigation/restoration, trail building/restoration, and noxious weed removal.  The Summer of Service term runs May 19-Aug 14, 2015 allowing students to earn $1,493 of an AmeriCorps Education Award to use to further their education or on past student loans.  They will also earn a $640 biweekly living stipend.

New Era Colorado Internships 

New Era Colorado is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to build a more hands-on democracy that more accurately reflects and engages the diversity of the millennial generation.  Their goal is to bring young people into the political process through civic engagement, leadership development, and issue advocacy.  New Era has registered, educated and turned out tens of thousands of young voters, and passed forward-thinking policies that make elections more accessible and move the needle on issues that impact young people.

Steppe Paid Summer Internships 

STEPPE is an NSF-funding consortium at the Geological Society of America.  They champion support for research/education and help facilitate the development of integrated, collaborative projects for sedimentary

geologists, paleontologists and others who comprise the sedimentary crust research community.

Four intern positions for summer 2015 are available:

  

* Science Policy (Washington, D.C.)

* Non-profit Administrator (Boulder, CO)

* Communications Project Manager (Boulder, CO)

* Science Journalist/Social Media Administrator (Boulder, CO)

  

All internship positions are for 10 weeks during the summer. Start and end dates are negotiable.  Interns must make their own travel and housing arrangements.   Compensation is in the 

form of a stipend, in the amount of $4,600.  Applications due March 21, 2015.

Squam Lakes Association Internship-Applications Due March 23, 2015 7:00am EST

The Squam Conservation Internship provides skills and experience for future conservation professionals while working as the driving force behind the SLA's conservation mission.  This unpaid volunteer internship provides hands-on conservation work experience and certifications over a broad range of activities.  Interns serve as campsite hosts and caretakers at Squam Lake's Association's backcountry campsites, work toward the eradication of variable milfoil, engage both youth and adults in environmental education, and perform other conservation duties such as shoreline restoration and trail maintenance and construction.

There is growing concern that in coming decades global migration patterns will be affected by land degradation, weather extremes, food insecurity, pollution, and climate change. The class will be heavily field-based with emphasis on gaining proficiency with technical field data collection, basic research design and data analysis, and backcountry field research

IAFS 3000-100 Climate and International Society-Offered in Summer A Term

In what ways are climate change and international society connected, and what is required of contemporary societies to address future environmental crisis? This interdisciplinary course will examine problems and policies related to climate change, including agriculture, gender, ecotourism, and religious conservatism, as well as traditionally studied areas of fossil fuels and political interest groups.   Contact International Affairs to enroll in the course.

Undergraduate Certificate Program
in Renewable and Sustainable Energy

CU-Boulder's undergraduate energy certificate program provides broad exposure to energy issues, with an emphasis on renewable and sustainable energy. Required coursework in energy science and technology, energy policy, and energy projects is coupled with electives on energy and environment, energy technologies, energy economics, and other areas to give students the skills and knowledge to tackle society's pressing energy problems. Successful completion of the certificate program is indicated on CU-Boulder official transcripts.

Originally founded in 1948 as a forum on international affairs, the CWA expanded rapidly in its early years to encompass the arts, media, science, diplomacy, technology, environment, spirituality, politics, business, medicine, human rights, and so on.  Roger Ebert, who participated in the CWA for four decades, always referred to the CWA as "the Conference on Everything Conceivable."

Dean Reed Peace Prize Essay Contest 

The Conference on World Affairs is proud to announce this year's DEAN REED PEACE PRIZE ESSAY CONTEST, open to all undergraduate students at the University of Colorado Boulder. The $1000 prize will be awarded to the best essay on the subject "Human Rights: To Intervene or Not."  Essays should be 8-10 pages in length and show a breadth and depth of both knowledge and research in addressing the essay topic.

Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Research Symposium
April 17 

This symposium is an opportunity for graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and undergraduates from all departments to gain experience in presenting their work. Research topics should pertain to the fields of ecology and/or evolutionary biology. Speakers have the choice of presenting a poster or giving an oral presentation, or both.

 

Cash prizes of $100 will be awarded to the top poster and oral presentation!
