INDIAN ROTI HOUSE MASALA CHAI TEA RECIPE

The Indian Roti House makes a traditional Masala Chai tea with creamy hot milk, fragrant black tea, fresh cardamom, cinnamon and ginger. Sugar is not added during the preparation but can be added to taste.

Masala Chai tea is a creamy, soothing traditional hot Indian beverage that combines black tea, spices, sugar and milk. The secret to a great chai is in the masala (spice mixture). The most common are cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper. Masala chai is warming, soothing, acts as a natural digestive aid and gives one a wonderful sense of well being. It's difficult to resist a second cup.

Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 5 cardamoms
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 2.5 tbsp black tea powder (loose leaf tea)
  • sugar (to taste)
Directions for making the perfect Masala Chai Tea:

1. Add cinnamon, cardamom, grated ginger, black tea powder and water to a pot. Bring to boil.

2. Once the mixture is boiling, add in the milk.

3. Continue heating until it just starts boiling. At this point, remove the pot from the stove.

4. Pour the tea into serving cups through a strainer that catches everything but the liquid.

5. Add sugar (to taste) to each cup, stir & serve!
