TIME REMINDER: WE MOVE AHEAD THIS SUNDAY, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO ADJUST YOUR CLOCKS.

A Special Invitation

from Rev. Dwayne Johnson

I need your help today.  And the request is a simple one:  could you take a few moments now while it is fresh on your mind to complete a survey at the link below?

This is why:  In the months ahead we are inviting our whole congregation into the spiritual practice of discerning our direction for the years ahead.  A series of holy conversations will provide opportunities for prayerful reflection, creative dreaming and meaningful dialogue.  These conversations will inspire and inform a clear sense of mission and a powerful vision to bring transformation and blessing to many more people in the years ahead.

You are invited to participate in an important online Congregational Life Survey

In preparation for our first of three congregational forums on Saturday, March 14, we are conducting an online survey of our congregation.  Although the survey typically takes less than 15 minutes to complete, it will provide some of the most comprehensive information we have ever gathered about congregational life at MCC of Washington DC. It is very important for everyone to participate in this online survey.   If you have yet to take this survey, please take a moment now.

Here is the link to our online survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6QJKC7Pmccwashingtondc

The survey closes at Noon on March 9.  Why not take 15 minutes now to help create our future for years to come?

Your views and voice are vital as we continue to think and pray about what God is calling us to become and be doing in the years ahead!

With Gratitude,

Rev. Dwayne

THE PASSION OF JESUS

"Passion for your house consumes me."

~ Psalm 69:9, Common English Bible

Jesus was passionate.  He was passionate about healing. He was passionate about teaching.  Prayer was the passion of his every breath.  He was passionate about people.  Passionate justice emboldened his actions.  What was at the center of his heart, driving his passions?   Worship of God!

In our scripture from John 2: 13-22 for the Third Sunday in Lent,  we see Jesus at his most passionate.  We see his zeal.    Indeed, as he turns tables and scatters coins we see an angry side to him.  What angers Jesus so much?

Perhaps Jesus was angry when he saw  the poor turned away from the temple because they didn't have enough money, even though they had scrimped and saved to pay the appropriate fee structures of that time.  Or perhaps he saw the money changers "cutting deals" with the finely attired, playing to their status.  Most of all, perhaps Jesus saw that God had gotten lost in the wheeling and dealing and subtle (or not so subtle) injustices.

The disciples, in observing Jesus' behavior, remembered the ancient Psalm: "Passion for your house consumes me."  In John's gospel, Jesus' consuming passion is expressed in every faithful step he takes to ensure wholeness for all God's people.

This Sunday we'll reflect further on the passion of Jesus, and his deeply connected heart for the worship of God.  Through worship, a door to healing is opened.  Through worship, the deepest longing of our heart meets fulfillment in the heart of God.  See you Sunday at 9 AM and 11 AM.

Faithfully,

Rev. Dwayne

A SPECIAL NOTE FROM SENIOR PASTOR REV. J. DWAYNE JOHNSON

After much discernment and prayer, I am making a change in staffing. Michael Fisher will no longer be serving in the position of Minister of Worship Arts. Music this Sunday will be led by Daniel Scearce at 9am and Randi Levy at 11am. I look forward to seeing you Sunday when I will be offering opportunities for prayer and support. In the meantime, please hold Michael Fisher and MCCDC in your prayers as we move forward.

MCCDC Celebrates Women's History Month

Why Women's History?

Each time a girl opens a book and reads a womanless history, she learns she is worth less.  ~ Myra Pollack Sadker. History helps us learn who we are, but when we don't know our own history, our power and dreams are immediately diminished. Multicultural American women are overlooked in most mainstream approaches to U.S. history, so the National Women's History Project champions their accomplishments and leads the drive to write women back into history.

Recognizing the achievements of women in all facets of life - science, community, government, literature, art, sports, medicine - has a huge impact on the development of self-respect and new opportunities for girls and young women. The 2015 theme of the month is "Weaving the Stories of Women's Lives".

JOIN US FOR A WOMEN'S GATHERING

The women will gather on Sunday March 22nd from 12:30 - 2:30 for food, sistership, connection and story telling. This year's theme is Weaving the Stories of Women's Lives. We will meet in the Lower level conference room. Please bring a strip of cloth about 24" long. Please contact Rev Cathy if you plan on attending so that we can be sure to have enough food. [email protected] or 202-638-7373.

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

Give to the AV Ministry Fund. MCCDC is revamping the Sanctuary sound system, a new audio board and system, and new cameras so we can start to webcast our Sunday services to the community and the shut-in.

The cost of the project is $95,500. The Board has committed $42,850 to the project and we have raised $34,513 for a total of $77,363. We are $18,137 away from our goal. Help us make this happen.

To give to this fund, click here. There is a drop-down menu that you can select AV Ministry to make your gift.
