Former Wayne County Engineer Named as Westland Deputy Director of Public Works
Westland, MI - Mayor William R. Wild announces that he has named Hassan Saab to serve as   Deputy DPS Director. A professional civil engineer, Dr. Saab, who also holds a PhD in Structural Engineering, has over twenty years' experience in civil engineering.  Most recently, he was employed with the Wayne County Department of Public Services and the Environment.

 

 

Dr. Saab's experience is extensive including the areas of environmental facilities management, parks and recreation, land resource and water quality management and roads.  "With Hassan's considerable experience in civil engineering and his knowledge of the processes by which road and other engineering projects are funded and approved, the City will benefit as it works to address the community's aging infastructure;" commented Mayor Wild. 

 

In addition to his PhD, Dr. Saab earned a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, is a published author and during his tenure with Wayne County was involved in a comprehensive reorganization of the DPS including updating position classifications and improving service delivery processes.  The reorganization included development of information technology systems for improving upon data collection and online monitoring of work flows.

 

Saab will be acting as the engineer in charge of assessing city infrastructure and overseeing major road projects, bridges, water and sewer  and  storm water management. He will also be responsible for  maintenance functions related to streets, public Right Of Ways and public facilities.  Some of these operations include snow and ice control, street repair and sweeping, street signs, lights and landscape maintenance.  He will be the technical adviser to our consultants overseeing all engineering work, such as design, bidding and inspections of all infrastructure improvement projects, to ensure compliance with City, State and Federal requirements.
