A New Berth of Freedom
Be a part of our future!

It is a joy to say it -- PortSide NewYork has its first long term home! We can now make multi-year plans. Your support will help accelerate our growth and program delivery as we move into a new era. You can  donate , get  involved , refer others to us.  Check out the other good news below!

Our Atlantic Basin home -- a game-changer!

On May 29, PortSide NewYork started a three-year permit on Pier 11, Atlantic Basin, Red Hook next to the Brooklyn Cruise terminal!

Note the strong support behind us in our press release and watch the inspiring drone video of our historic move created by Jonathan Atkin and the Atkin Drone Team.

More about that exciting day on our blog.

Thank you Vane Brothers for donating the tow!  Thank you Councilman Carlos Menchaca for  your strong support that made this all come together. Thank you EDC, DockNYC and Port Authority for working out our berth arrangements. Thanks to Mike Stamatis and RHCT LLC, the operators of the Red Hook containerport, and the Port Authority for hosting us in that port while we looked for a home.
We are growing! Join the team!
Our board, volunteer corps, and programs are already growing. We added two new board members and four Advisory Board members.  We seek more.

Please get in touch if you would like to get involved or can recommend someone to us. More about our new team members here
Youth & Education programs expanding!
Our new home means the tanker MARY A. WHALEN will be readily accessible during the school year for the first time, so PortSide is preparing school programs now.  We are building on what we have done before while seeking new ideas and partners.  Our first activity in Atlantic Basin was an Open House for Educators Week
and we were visited by diverse schools, and after-school and summer programs, with whom we'll design programs.

How you can help:   Pass the word to educators you know.  Refer good waterfront curriculum ideas to us.   Donate   to support our staffing and material costs.
Job training program aboard means better ship preservation!
The MARY A. WHALEN is now a training site for the painters union District Council 9. Their Commercial Division did a wonderful job painting the galley. Great to have pros involved; thank you DC9!  Their Metal Polishing Division strips and polishes bronze and Monel. Their Bridge Construction Division will paint the ship exterior this fall, if PortSide gets the paint.

How you can help:  We seek donated paint. PortSide NewYork is a great sponsorship opportunity.  Can you introduce us to marine industrial paint suppliers or manufacturers? If so, please email us.
Save the dates! Get involved!
Tues 8/4 - 8/9  We are planning a fundraiser and programs to inaugurate our Atlantic Basin home, plus others to be announced.

How you can help: Join a fundraising committee . Volunteer as a docent during TankerTours or work in our shipboard office.  Suggest a potential board member, or join our board yourself. Send us an email
