Updates Planned for City's Oldest Sewer Pump Station

Westland, MI - The Westland City Council approved a bid for a $269,000 upgrade to its Middlebelt Pumping Station at their September 2nd meeting by awarding the needed improvement project to Trojan Development Company, LLC, a Detroit-based business.  "The  Middlebelt Pump Station Project is a welcome technology improvement to the City's aging sanitary sewer system," Remarked Mayor Wild.   "This is the first major project the City is embarking on that is part of an overall Capital Improvement Plan to modernize the City's water and sewer system," added Wild.  The pumping station was built in the 1970's, and the City plans to boost both its pumping capacity and monitoring abilities with the upgrade. The project will be funded through the City's Water and Sewer Fund.

New station mechanical pumps will be accessible above ground, which reduces hazardous confined space problems for employee and maintenance safety.  The project for the Middlebelt Road Pumping Station is scheduled to be completed by late November of this year.
