The Third Sunday After the Epiphany
Jesus said, "Follow Me"

And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you fish for people." And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

After reading these texts I wonder what the life of a fisherman was like? I imagine hard work with a lot of completion. Hot days, colds days and windy days.  I wonder how those disciples who left everything, felt about their lives?  Were they hungry to pack and leave and try something new, were they sick of their family, or was Jesus' invite that strong?

We cannot know for certain but what we can know that no matter the circumstances following is never simple.  It's hard not to get bored and there is that little voice of question, that makes it difficult to settle into the decision we make.

One truth from life's adventures that I have found true is that when we really make that decision to follow, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable to something new and sometimes courageous. It is in these moments I have found life to be most lasting.  With stories to last a lifetime.

May the road rise up to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home

And may the hand of a friend always be near.

God Bless,

Billy+

Beware the Marathon!  Sunday 1/25

Here is a link to the 3M Half-Marathon map: http://www.3mhalfmarathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/3M_map_v3.pdf

The good news:
Burnet Road is accessible via 183
, and the race is on Burnet only north of 183.  The race route near ECR runs southbound on Shoal Creek (crossing Anderson Lane), bumps west at Foster Lane to Great Northern Blvd., then returns to Shoal Creek via Bullard.

North of 45th, access to Burnet from the east is as usual.  If you are coming from the west side of town along Mopac, your best bet is to loop up over 183 (S), take the Burnet exit and head south, or right.

(People coming up Mopac from south of Enfield may want to cross east on Enfield, go north on Red River, continue north on Airport Blvd., and jog over to Justin at Lamar.)
The Avodah Project for Our Lenten Season

As the number of children in regular attendance at ECR has increased, it seems to be a good time to introduce more opportunities for them to participate and lead in worship. During Lent this year, we're putting together a 6-week Wednesday evening program we're calling "The Avodah Project."  A'vodah is a Hebrew word that means work, worship and service.

We'll start each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Choir Room with a quick snack and a 45-minute children's choir rehearsal, to be followed at 6:30 with a soup-and-sandwich supper in the Youth Building for kids and adults. During Lent, Nathan Jennings will provide an adult offering, Lenten Mystery, from 5:45-6:30 p.m. in the Youth Building.  At 7:00, the children will head to an activity, such as Atrium time, learning basic acolyting, layreading or usher duties, or supervised homework.

As part of Avodah, our adult choir will rehearse 7:00-8:00 p.m., and we invite parents to join us for Lent through Easter Sunday!  At 8:00, children will head home, and adult choir activities will shift to voicepart sectionals, work on a special project, or a small ensemble. This provides a good spot for one or both parents to slip out, and also allows an option for one to stay for sectionals while the other takes children home.  Adult choir rehearsal will continue until 9:00 p.m. as usual, but that last hour will be broken into scheduled components that may not involve all singers.  If the Avodah Project works well, we'll do more for various seasons of the church year.

My goals for the children's choir are to have them lead the congregation in simple sung responses every Sunday during Lent, and to sing special songs for our 10:30 Palm Sunday and Easter services.  We will begin rehearsing on February 18, Ash Wednesday, and practice every Wednesday until Easter (April 5).  The group will be for children age 7 and up.  If all goes well, I also have some fun games that help teach basic music reading and ear training.  We'll take our work together seriously, but we'll have fun in the process of learning how to lead musically!  I invite parents of potential singers to contact me now at 512-834-3694 or sarabmcc@austin.rr.com so I can pick music that will work well for our group and be sure we've got snacks and folders ready for everyone on Feb. 18!

News From the Atrium
 Dear Friends,
This week in the Atrium, we begin celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism.  Jesus is the light who has come into the world!  And it is through Baptism that each of us is drawn lovingly into that great Light, the light of the Good Shepherd, through water and with the anointing of holy oil.  We will learn the words for items associated with Baptism, like Paschal candle, chrism and baptismal font.  And with individual candles, we will reflect on each of our Baptisms, either in the past, or yet to come.

Be looking for information coming about family choir nights on Wednesdays in Lent.

Peace,

Mother Kelly
