Cryoablation Trial in France 
 
The following is information on an upcoming cryoablation clinical trial which is expected to open sometime this year (2015) in France.   
 
Cryoablation of Desmoid tumors

France 2015

The Aim 

  • Lesser consequences
    than classical surgery and when a Watch & Wait approach has to be discontinued
  • The possibility of repeating this intervention, which is of great interest considering the current inability to anticipate its evolution

Why Now 

  • Five centers throughout France currently have the teams and the equipment required (including MRI control)

Project Leaders

  • J E Kurtz (oncologist) and Afshin Gangi (interventional radiologist), both in Strasbourg Hospital Center

Planned Enrollment 

  • Criteria : adults with extra-abdominal DT progressing in spite of two lines of treatment
  • Decision to resort to cryoablation : only after agreement between oncologist and interventional radologistI
  • It is planned to include 25 patients per year during two years.  Patients will be treated in France

Results Monitoring 

  • Primary endpoint will be Progression Free Survival at 12 months
  • Secondary objectives will include by-effects observation, pain evaluation, functional capacity
