It's slightly disorienting, this aberrant progression of the seasons. I walk over to the Town Hall and monitor the bulbs on the trees and pink and purple shoots popping up from the ground. I'd hardly seen the Big Horn Sheep all winter; the snow didn't drive them down from Seven Castles and Basalt Mountain as in years past.
Yet, for the last two days, coming in beside the Fryingpan River, I've spotted an assortment of sheep on the road and up the hill. Please view happily and take care on the Fryingpan Road as these beautiful animals seem unconcerned with cars of any kind.
Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting & Luncheon
Just last year there was so much talk of a Town divided, still sluggish economy, somewhat rudderless sailing. Something has changed and I'm wondering if you're feeling it. Ideas abound for the historic downtown and riverfront area. The walls of the world-renowned Rocky Mountain Institute's "Innovation Center" are climbing upward. And nearly a dozen business professionals have chosen Basalt for their new shops, services and galleries just in the last couple of months (including a
new Mexican restaurant and catering service on Two Rivers Road).
This year the Basalt Chamber of Commerce decided that rather than chronicle our year-in-review, we wanted to shine a light on the movement within our Town. We've invited an exceptionally creative and effective Town Manager to speak on what makes a Town, as well as the leading voices for two of the most striking developments in our community, Willits Town Center's Tim Belinski and RMI's Michael Kinsley. We also asked Marci Krivonen of Aspen Public Radio to share her observations on Basalt as it evolves (if she's back in town in time for lunch). You'll get the Chamber's update and financials, of course, and you'll also have an opportunity to ask questions and mingle with local business owners.
The luncheon will take place Thursday, April 16, from 11:30 to 1:15 at Tempranillo Restaurant in Basalt. Seating is limited so

The Basalt Community Guide & Business Directory ~ A Phenomenal Success... so Far!
I'm happy to report that this year's Basalt magazine will jump from 68 to at least 92 pages. Presenting the same quality layout and content, this sharp publication will now be perfect bound (with a spine). Enthusiasm about the magazine is a solid testimony to growing economic vitality, the magazine's quality and increased business participation. Due to the magazine format, we have to increase the size in 8-page segments. Pressured by demand, we made the decision this week to open more space and so are extending the ad deadline. If you've not yet reserved, you now have another week -
but please call soon as there are only a few spaces available. You'll find all the information
below.

A Packed Event
The March Business After Hours hosted by WJ Bradley, Land Title Guarantee Company and Jimbo's Wine & Liquors last Thursday was packed. More than 70 people came and went through evening enjoying green beer, excellent food and lively networking. We have many more great events ahead. Take a look

Calling all seasoned and wannabe photographers! The Basalt Chamber of Commerce is searching every nook and cranny for new and striking community and people photos for the upcoming Basalt Magazine. Do you have a favorite picture of outdoor/indoor
dining, recreational activities, shopping, storefronts, gatherings or people enjoying events? They can be from old town Basalt, Southside, Willits, Mid-Valley, Emma and El Jebel areas. We're committed to building a community-inclusive and vibrant magazine for Basalt. We'd love your participation.
Photo submissions must be of good quality, focus and composition, royalty free and delivered digitally. The entries must be submitted by March 27 to Lorie D'Alessio at
