BEAUTY WITH PURPOSE
Larissa Ngangoum Miss World Cameroon 2014, Kicks Off a Nationwide Tour of Schools in Cameroon Promoting Quality Education for Underprivileged Children and Encouraging Girls to Take on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Tour of Schools Kicks off in South West Region.

Queen Larissa arrived the beautiful City of Limbe, Cameroon, on Sunday Sept 14th in preparation to launch her nationwide tour of schools in Cameroon. She is ready to talk to children about the importance of education, sharing her own educational journey to inspire students.  She will be awarding Scholarships to Orphans and under privileged children across the nation to help them receive quality education and secure a brighter future for themselves.

The Beauty Queen who was crowned in Yaounde in July 2014, is a 4th year Student at a School of Pharmacy in Maryland USA. She entered the Miss Cameroon Contest after winning the Miss Cameroon USA title in 2013. She is the youngest daughter among 5 girls, born and raised in Yaounde, the nation's capital.  She says growing up with a single mother of 5 girls was very tough until she got an opportunity to pursue higher education in the United States. Today she wants to inspire children to stay focused in school and build their dreams.

In 2013 she teamed up with Youth For Human Rights to start a scholarship program for children in Cameroon.  She organized an Essay contest in schools in Cameroon and the winner Brightwell Nkeng an orphan was awarded full scholarship.  He is now in High school and doing very well, he attends National Comprehensive High School and Larissa will get to meet him for the first time in Limbe.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Awards for Girls)

Larissa is determined to bridge the gap that exists between male and female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). There are more boys pursuing STEM in Cameroon than girls and she wants to change that by encouraging more girls to take an interest in STEM.  She will be launching The Larissa Ngangoum STEM Awards for Girls, to honor those who excel in STEM subjects. She selected Saker Baptist College in Limbe a traditionally all girls Christian institution, known for its excellence, to launch this Award. She will spend time with the girls in their Science classes, share their experiences and use the opportunity to inspire and encourage them to pursue STEM, using her own experience as a 4th year Pharmacy student whose plan is to open her own Pharmacy in Cameroon in the near future.

Miss World Cameroon Larissa Ngangoum is scheduled to Visit the following Schools in the South West Region from Tuesday to Friday of this Week.

The Beauty Queen has spent the last Month after being Crowned, volunteering at various Orphanages in the country.  Recently she was in an Orphanage in New Bell Douala, where she donated food and clothing and spent time with the children.
