Summer Class Schedule

Visit by Author Carol James

Weaving

Tuesday, May 21,

noon - 1 pm

Author Carol James of

Fingerweaving Untangled and Sprang Unsprung will discuss her journey as the 'SashWeaver,' history and a variety of items, such as a hat, mittens, vest and shawl created using sprang technique. Plus, she will share her re-creation of the sash George Washington received from British General Braddock during the French and Indian Wars. This piece will be included in the Mount Vernon Museum in Washington D.C. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see this piece up close before it is handed over to the museum's permanent collection.

Plan to come early or stay late, or drop by after 5 pm to watch Carol demonstrate these unique techniques throughout the day at the Weavers Guild. Demonstration schedule: 10 - 11:30 am, 1 - 2 pm, and 4 - 7 pm.

This program is part of the Textile Center Pat O'Connor Library Author Lunch Series. Copresented with the Weavers Guild of Minnesota.

Restemayer's large scroll series was created with funding from an Artist Initiative Grant by the Minnesota State Arts Board. It features works with images of animals used as pseudo-illustrations paired with a surface covered in fields of French knots. The work is indicative of her mixed media/fiber work which incorporates traditional embroidery techniques, dyed papers and hand-pulled intaglio prints combined through collage.
