The UPC church office will be closed September 2, 3 and 4 as we move across the street to 212 E. Rosemary Street. The church office will be located at this address starting September 5 and at least through the month of October.

At this location, the regular church office phone number will allow a caller to leave a voicemail for any staff member.
Please remember that email will be the best way to reach administrative and program staff. If you need to contact the office immediately, the temporary office number will be (919) 869-7925. Thank you.

Congregational Meeting: September 21

The Session has called a Congregational Meeting on September 21 after the 11:00 a.m. worship service to act on the report of the Congregational Nominating Committee. The report includes the complete list of nominees for the Class of 2017, along with a brief biography of each one.

Click here to view the Nominating Committee Report. Printed copies are also available on The Landing. If you would like a copy mailed to you, please call the church office at (919) 929-2102 and leave a message in the General Mailbox with your name and address. At the meeting, the congregation will also act on a recommendation regarding the Staff Associate for Adult Ministries position, as recommended by the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee.

We recognize and thank the Nominating Committee for their work in identifying such a capable group of nominees. A special thank you to Diane Rizzo, who wrote the short biographies of the nominees in the report.

Capital Campaign Construction Update

This Sunday, worship will take place in the Fellowship Hall.

There have been a few changes to areas of the church that are off limits. The Henderson Street door and Campus Ministry wing are now open. However, the downstairs portion of the building is still off limits at this time, including the Youth Center, Garden Room, Nursery (new location-see below), classrooms, Fellowship Hall kitchen and the Stephen Ministry Room. Note we cannot use the Youth Center entrance or the entrance going directly on the playground. You may enter and exit the building at the parking lot door (and go up the stairs) or through the Henderson Street door. While worship is in the Fellowship Hall, the doors at the front of the Sanctuary cannot be used. For an accessible entrance, you may enter through a front side door of the church (near Vance Barron Hall) and take the elevator to the Fellowship Hall.

The nursery has moved to Vance Barron Hall. It will remain here throughout the next phase of construction.

Please note that while worship takes place in the Fellowship Hall, The IFC grocery cart, which is usually located in the narthex, will be located on The Landing. Items to be donated to the IFC can be left in the cart on Sundays. Or, you may take donations directly to the IFC Food Pantry at 110 W. Main Street in Carrboro. Thank you!

As we strive to stay flexible and patient during construction, we're counting on our members to do so as well! Thank you!

If you'd like to see how the construction is coming along, please click here to see pictures on the UPC Facebook page. Note you don't need to have a Facebook account to view the photos.

Parking During Construction
During the week, we'll need to have parking spots set aside for the construction crew and their materials. All of the middle parking spaces in the Robertson Lane lot will be reserved Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There will be a few visitor spots available next to the church building in the afternoon, but those will be the only non-reserved parking spots during construction. If you need to come to the church during the day, please plan to park in the parking deck at 150 East Rosemary St. or call in advance to see if there are any other spots available.

Adult Christian Education
Term 1: September 14 - October 26
Due to construction, we will be limited to three classes:

Connections: Discussion of contemporary Christian issues, first emphasis on poverty in NC. We plan to hear from Gene Nichol, former Dean of UNC Law and founder of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity. We'll expand our understanding of poverty in our community and the work of UPC to meet these needs. Location: Vance Barron Hall.

Faith Issues in Literature: Discussion of the essays of Anne Lamott in her book Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith. Location: Terrace Room.

Feasting on the Word: Expands our understanding of the lectionary scripture for each Sunday. This curriculum is coordinated with the children's ministry planning. Facilitator: Bob Dunham. Location: Stephen Ministry Room.

The Adult Education Committee invites your ideas and suggestions for topics and leaders for our classes. Please share your ideas with any of the following committee members: Jim Copeland, Chelsea Mc Elwee, DG Martin, Jay Klompmaker, Jim Schultz, Kaarin Huffman, Kelly Ross, Laura Baxley, Mike Nicholson, Randy Kabrick, Ruth Moose, Sarah Owen.

We look forward to worshiping with you!
