Message from Ashana

Sat Nam Global Sadhana Family,

Did you know that we have an amazing Discussion Group on Facebook where you can share your comments, concerns and questions? I absolutely love this part of the sadhana! I love the opportunity to connect with you personally in this way, so if you'd like join in, here's the link:

One person recently posted a question around experiencing uncomfortable emotions during the meditation. I know this happens for me sometimes and I am guessing it might be an issue for others as well.

I was reading and listening to some lectures by Yogi Bhajan and came across a passage where he said -- in essence -- that the purpose of meditation is not to achieve blissful states of euphoria and spiritual ecstasy. He said that meditation allows the subconscious mind to reveal itself to us.

Most of us walk around day after day in a state of semi-hypnosis. We distract ourselves with this and that in an effort to keep ourselves from going inside to "be" with ourselves. Meditations like this one allow us to see what's going on in our subconscious mind, which is not always the easiest place to hang out.

Remember that all the feelings and emotions surfacing are parts of you waiting to be recognized, acknowledged, embraced and loved. It's a process. It's a practice of gentleness and awareness. It's part of the journey of learning to love yourself and be with yourself in a present and authentic way.

During the course of this 40 day practice, you may have days that feel amazing and blissful. You may not. All kinds of feelings may surface: depression, sadness, grief, frustration, anger, boredom, mind chatter. It goes on and on. The mind is remarkable in all the ways it creates to keep us from resting in the present moment to simply "be" with ourselves. Our job is to witness and hold space for it all and when the moment is right, you can welcome everything that surfaces with loving kindness and acceptance. In my experience, it is in this space where transformation can occur. Eventually, mind grows quieter and the practice becomes a living meditation, moment to moment, all day long.

Most importantly, do what feels appropriate and right for you to take care of yourself during the process. Feel what comes up and trust in the mantra. Continue to place your focus on the chanting. Allow it to do its work and wash you clean. It will do that, and so very much more.

Loving You,

Ashana

Inspiration from Ramdesh

Sat Nam Global Sadhana Community,

Today's message is from Mandy in Arizona, who has created a beautiful genealogy tree to create a visual reference for her as she meditates and prays for her ancestors.  It's a beautiful way to get in touch with them and with this meditation.  If you know your ancestors, why not create a tree as a creative arts project?  The more you put into meditation, the more it gives back to you!

Here's Mandy in her own words...

"I'll start by thanking each and everyone of you for offering this amazing Sadhana. And for Ashana's beautiful voice.  Some of her music has become part of me in this journey.  Aside from the beautiful mantra we chant everyday, songs like: Deep Peace, When All is Forgiven and Everything I Am are leaving an imprint in my spirit.  To be able to be blessed by my ancestors and to bless them at the same time is touching my soul in ways I can't begin to explain.

We can only learn from the lessons they have taught us.  Their courage, their resilience, the sacrifices they made for their love of family are only a few examples. They had to go through a lot of suffering and heartache but at the end it was all worth it.  We are their legacy.  And for that we must be eternally grateful to them.

Some of them I know their stories and their suffering, others not so much.  Lots of them have made it to my genealogy tree others haven't, yet.  But each and everyone of them are becoming more real now than when they were just names in a piece of paper.  I feel their love inside of me.  And my love for them grows each day.

I printed my genealogy tree (below) and placed it on the wall in my meditation room to help me keep their spirits alive within me.  I share my tree with you now.

With this Sadahna, the stories others share, your guidance and the inspiring and soulful words both of you share each day I am now able to give them something beautiful in return.

With love and eternal appreciation,
Mandy

Mantra

Complete Mantra:
Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru

Language: Gurmukhi

Source: Dream with Guru Ram Das Ji

Author: Yogi Bhajan

Translation:
Guru - teacher or guide that brings one from the darkness to the light.
Wahe - exclamation of ecstacy like "WOW!"
Ram Das - literally translates as "God's Servant",
but also refers to Guru Ram Das, the Fourth Guru of the Sikhs

More Information:
This mantra was given to Yogi Bhajan by Guru Ram Das in His astral self. As Guru Ram Das, the fourth Guru of the Sikhs, was known for humility and healing abilities this mantra is also known for its healing qualities and for imparting humility to the one who chants it.

This mantra relates directly to healing and protective energy represented by Guru Ram Das. The mantra is comprised of two parts. The first part is a nirgun mantra (Guru Guru Wahe Guru). This projects the mind to the source of knowledge and ecstasy. The second part is a sirgun mantra (Guru Ram Das Guru). This means the wisdom that comes as a servant of the infinite. It is the mantra of humility. It reconnects the experience of the finite to infinity.
