Kudos to Bryn Bird Walsh!

...for working with the Chamber of Commerce, the Ministerium and the Farm Market vendors to put together a nice "Celebration of the Growing Season" this year. Read the article in the Newark Advocate here.  There are even a few quotes from "yours truly." - Dwight

UCC Clergy Rallied for Change in Cleveland -- "In downtown Cleveland Tuesday morning, May 26, United Church of Christ clergy joined their colleagues in a march and rally organized by area churches to protest a not-guilty verdict in the trial of Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo."  Read full coverage here.  We thank our denominational and local leaders for their thoughtful and prophetic statement.

For those of us who care deeply about promoting solar energy in our community, we have a unique opportunity to support an exciting new venture in downtown Newark. Richard Downs, an experienced local solar installer, and Jeremy King, Sustainability Coordinator at Denison, have offered to organize and oversee the installation of solar panels on the YES Club, a highly-visible downtown building used for a much-loved local youth program. We see this as a wonderful "hands-on" community demonstration and education project about the benefits of solar, engaging both youth and adults.

This project depends on community support. The YES for Solar! Fund has been established at the Licking County Foundation to hold contributions which are raised to cover the costs of this project.

Thought for the Day

"At every hour and moment, let us guard our minds against those things that obscure the soul's mirror. . .if we cleanse the eye of the mind, we will find all things hidden within us."

- Philotheos of Sinai, 9th c.

It's that time of year... "Congratulations!" to all those graduates close  to our hearts this season.  We'll be recognizing a few this Sunday!

Also this Sunday, join us as we also pause to celebrate the 196th "Birthday" of our congregation.  On June 6th, 1819, back when Ohio was considered the "western wilderness," the "Baptist Church of Christ" was established here in Granville by 19 people who met in a barn, then took turns meeting in each ot hers' homes.  A short 11 years later, that group assisted Rev. John Pratt from Baptist-related Brown University in establishing the Granville Literary and Theological Institution in it's meeting house.  This would later become Denison University.

We give thanks that we come from a long line of people committed to a just and democratic society, to humble inquiry, to respectful dialogue, and to a grounding in the Sacred.

Shalom, Dwight
Thanks, Mathew!
Next time you see Mathew McFarren tell him "Thank You!" for all the time he spends carefully thinking about and working on our buildings.  The new Annex doors went up today!

Children's Church

(PreK-5th grade)

will meet this summer!

"We're focusing on appreciating the earth and learning more about natural resources and how to conserve them. Using a curriculum called Loving Our Neighbor, The Earth: Creative-Spirituality Activities we have already learned about the connection between plants, soil and water and set up an experiment to observe changes to topsoil throughout the summer. These science-based lessons are complemented with some open-ended discussions about how one can experience God and the interconnectionness of nature, animals, and people.

Lots of outdoor time and fun team building activities, too!

Can't wait to see you there!"  - Ceciel

 Summer Sunday Brunches!
Beginning June 14th, after worship

Five minute coffee conversations are great, but eating together is even better!  On most Sundays this summer (except for Lunches on the Square Sundays and the July 4th weekend) we're going to be hosting a brunch in the Annex after morning worship--from 11:15--with some tables set up outside if weather permits.  Kids are welcome to play in and around the Annex while we eat. A good chance to make some new friends.

"Thanks to so many of you for signing up already to help!
We still need team members!
Check the list on the back table in the sanctuary and add your name(s) on the dates when you can help!"
- Kitty & Doris Jane
