Nepal Earthquake Relief
for Mountain View Eco Farm

In the next issue we will report on the rebuilding process for Govinda and his family at MVEF thanks to the generous donations and fund raising effort of friends, family and a grant from Global Giving. To support the relief effort, click here.

Double your donation!

Through our Global Giving campaign, you can subscribe to a small, recurring monthly donation to support at-risk girls. Your donation will buy pads from EWP's women's enterprise to provide them to vulnerable girls so they can stay in school when they have their period.

If 75% or more of the donations on Global Giving are recurring, your $10 donation that currently provides pads for 8 girls will be matched by an anonymous donor and support a total of 16 girls! Please consider subscribing today and invite your friends and family!

Thank you for your support!

Common Ground for Africa's Lenana Girls School

We are thrilled to share that Lenana Girls School is on its way to doubling in size by 2016, thanks to the extraordinary work of our partner Common Ground for Africa (CGA) in Kitale, Kenya. Lenana Girls School provides bright girls with relevant sustainable farming programs, and academic and entrepreneurial education that bridges the gap between school and work for young, often orphaned girls who have been dispossessed due to unwanted pregnancies or forced female genital mutilation. CGA has plans to build classrooms, a lab and a library so it will be able to admit 50 more girls by 2016! CGA's success can no doubt be attributed to the impassioned and committed leadership of director Joshua Machinga, who we are so gratified to have as a partner.

Empowering Women. Period.
The Empowering Women Period (EWP) project is well on its way to begin providing employment to women in Kolkata, India, starting this summer - all we need is a name!

The women involved in the mini manufacturing plant for the sanitary pads are excited to choose the name of their new company. We feel the name should describe what we hope the women will gain from the business. Current suggestions include Swabimaan (self-respect) Pad or Adhikar (right or entitlement) Pad. Ultimately it's the women's decision, so we'll keep you updated as to what they decide! Once the name has been chosen, the business will be registered under the Small Scale Industries scheme, since EWP is a for profit venture for the women.

Finally, we are excited to report that we have a patent-pending in the U.S. for our unique absorbent made from water hyacinth. Our goal is to one day set-up an endowment for Village Volunteers and Empowering Women. Period so we can continue to set up mini-manufacturing sites for years to come. After a lot of hard work, we are eager beyond words to see our project benefit women in India and eventually, around the world.
