Festival of the Arts -  VAAL and Three Cities Art Club presents their Festival of the Arts this weekend.  The event will showcase wonderful fine art, great music, and activities for the entire family to enjoy.  The event will begin on Friday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. till 9:00 p.m and will include free drawing classes. Saturday, October 25th's festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. and will include face painting for the kids.  The festival will run on Sunday, October 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and drawing classes will be available.  Attendees can also enter to win a diamond ring and other great prizes.  

 

Morning Yoga for Beginners - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be having their Morning Yoga for Beginners on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. and Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m. Participants can learn the basics or pick up new pointers from an experienced instructor.  Yoga mats will be provided if needed.  The class is 1 hour and will be held in Meeting rooms A/B.  The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  


 

Zumbathon - Join the Friendship Center and the Compassionate City Initiative in their Zumbathon on Saturday, October 25.  The Zumbathon will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will benefit the Compassionate City Initiative which helps local non-profit organizations.  The Friendship Center is located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 

Norwayne Octoberfest - The Norwayne Community Citizens Council invites residents to join them for their Octoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will be pumpkins, face painting and lunch provided.  Residents will also have the opportunity to meet "Friday" and "Narco" the K9 police dogs.  There is no cost to partake in any activities.  The event will be held at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.

 

Teen Halloween Party - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be hosting an early Halloween party for teens on Saturday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m.  There will be snacks, music, games and a costume contest.  Costumes are highly encouraged, but not required.  The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

 

Westland City Hall Dedication Ceremony, Open House and Trick or Treat - The move is complete! The City of Westland has moved its municipal offices into the new Warren Road location (the former Circuit City). Now, the City Administration invites residents and their friends and family to a special Dedication Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Following the dedication ceremony, you will be able to trick or treat while touring the new state-of-the-art building.  Don't miss out on the New Westland City Hall Dedication Ceremony, followed by an Open House and Trick or TreatingMonday, October 27. Children are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes for the event.  Join Mayor William R. Wild, City Council, department heads, and other City dignitaries for this special evening that will be fun for the whole community! 

 

Monday Madness - Westland golfers should  check out Monday Madness at the Westland Municipal Golf Course. Every Monday, noon to 5 pm, the course has a lunch and golf special: 9 Holes of Golf, Electric Cart, and food - $20 per golfer and $15 for seniors,  The golf course is located at 500 S. Merrimen. 

 

Friday Night Movie - The Westland Library will have their weekly Friday Night Movie on Friday, October 31.  This week's movie is the 2014 version of "Godzilla,"   Snacks and refreshments are provided on a donation basis.  Each week also features a trivia contest with small prizes handed out after the movie. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 7:00 p.m.

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

 

Halloween Candy Screening - In the interest of safety, residents are invited to bring their collected Halloween candy to the 18th District Court for screening on Friday, October 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  For more information, call (734)595-8720.

 

Extra Mile Day - Mayor Wild has reached out to Westland residents to join 400 other cities natiowide who have pledged to "go the extra mile" on Saturday, November 1.  There are many individuals and organizations within our community that need your help.  Extra Mile Day is a coordinated effort to do just that.  Please join the Mayor in this initiative and share your stories and photos on our city Facebook page.
