BUON APPETITO!

For anyone who has attended a CRS Charity Ball, you know what amazing auction items are always available. For two consecutive years, one of the Live Auction items has been an Italian Feast, hosted by and held at the home of Avon Lake residents Tom and Tomie Patton.

Pictured here is one of the MANY highlights of this year's dinner -- a cooking demonstration featuring parmigiano reggiano cheese -- unbelievably delicious!

The lucky winners of this year's auction dinners haven't stopped talking about the experience. Here's what one of the guests had to say:

"The Patton dinner exceeded ANYTHING you could hope for from a special evening. I can't even begin to describe the lengths they went to to provide such a special atmosphere, from the food, drinks, presentation, music, stories, etc. You'll have to experience it for yourself, but we can truly say it was one of the most memorable evenings of our lives. It was THAT good!"

Thank you to the Pattons for offering this unique opportunity, and for their overwhelming generosity and long-time support of our CRS families!

BACK TO SCHOOL

CRS was pleased to distribute more than 200 backpacks last week, filled with supplies to help our families head back to school with the things they need to begin the next academic year on the right foot!

Thank you to all of the community members, businesses and organizations who helped contribute to these distributions. We are truly grateful for the outpouring of school supply donations we receive each year.

Special thanks go out to the Avon Lake Kiwanis, who made a generous donation in the amount of $1,500 to help us purchase supplies, and the Walmart Foundation and the Avon Walmart store for giving us a special discount and a gift card to put toward our shopping spree.

In addition, we couldn't have managed the distribution of all those supplies without the help of the team of volunteers from Lowe's in Avon. They sent employees to CRS for two consecutive days to help pass out backpacks and supplies! Thank you to Lowe's for always being there when we need some added help. We really appreciate our partnership!

CARGILL CARES!

What a huge help it was to have members from the Cargill Cares team on-hand to distribute fresh produce at our Farmers' Market on August 14th. Thanks to the food provided by the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, our CRS families were able to select from a variety of fresh vegetables!

Special thanks also go out to Midge Crist, an Independent Health, Wellness and Fitness Professional, who also helped out at the market. Midge passed out recipes to go along with the vegetables being distributed, and answered questions about how to best prepare the produce and generally how to eat healthy.

We are so very grateful to be able to offer the Farmers' Markets to our clients. Thanks to everyone who made this one a success!

CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH TENDS THE CRS GARDEN

A big thanks to Matt Walworth and his volunteers at the Calvary Baptist Church for planting and tending our Community Garden plots this year. They have been bringing in produce weekly, which is much appreciated by our clients.

SOUPer BOWL 2014

Join in the fun of this year's SOUPer Bowl Food Drive, and help CRS replenish its pantry shelves!

The SOUPer Bowl is a friendly competition between community members in Avon and Avon Lake to see who can collect the most food by weight. It is held each year at the Avon vs. Avon Lake Varsity Football game.

This year's event is on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Avon Lake High School's Memorial Stadium. All food collected directly benefits families in need right here in Avon and Avon Lake. We also accept cash donations. Each $1 contributed is counted as 5 pounds of food.

One truck for each community is stationed at the football field and is weighed after the 1st quarter of the game. The winner of the food drive competition is announced at half time and is presented with the SOUPer Bowl Trophy.

For more information about the SOUPer Bowl, please contact Pam at 933-5639.
PROCEEDS FROM EAGLE RUN BENEFIT CRS

Our heartfelt thanks to the members of the Eagle Run Committee for their on-going support of CRS and the people that we serve.

We received a generous donation in the amount of $3,000 to help provide basic needs assistance to the members of our community. We couldn't do any of what we do without the support of groups like the Eagle Run Committee.

Congratulations to them for another successful event this year, and thanks again for continuing to choose CRS as one of the beneficiaries of their net proceeds!

COMMUNITY DONATIONS

CRS has truly been blessed this month with many donations of non-perishable items for our food pantry.

Thank you to the following businesses and organizations: Mid Century Lodge #725, Another 4H Club, Emma Knick and the guests at her birthday party, Market Day, Joey Spirnak and his Christmas in July food drive at St. Joseph Church and Fifth Third Bank in Avon Lake.  This is in addition to the many individuals who bring donations to the CRS office on a daily basis.

We are so very grateful for all of the donations that help keep our food pantry well stocked and that help us continue our mission of People Helping People!
