Where Strength, Inspiration & Perspiration Meets the Ocean.

There is an expression in the professional training and coaching world and that is:

"When you're in the zone is when you can do the most damage"
You don't have to be training at elite levels like Kody Kerbox to understand the value of this statement.  When your mind is right, your body is fluid and all the stars align, it is that magical moment when the world stops and frame by frame you are achieving mind-blowing athletic feats.  But don't stop there. Check out the article on Maui's own Naish SUP champ, Kody Kerbox in the zone....

Training in the zone with Kody Kerbox, Naish stand up paddle athlete in all disciplines; seems to be such a natural state.  But it takes focus, hard work and lots and lots of different methods of training to train the mind.  Here is an excerpt from one of the chapters of my new book coming out soon about what kind of stand up paddler you'll find in the zone and how you can get there too.

In my book I describe the certain profile type of an elite SUP paddler athlete that is often there and what type of environment and conditions they thrive on.  Here is a small preview from that chapter:

...The of Type of Paddler You'll Find in The Zone:

You may have guessed by now that it takes a certain kind of SUP athlete to transcend into this special performance state. You may already have in your mind some of the most disciplined top paddlers that would lead you to believe they've had lots of practice getting to and being in the zone.

Sure some are blessed with lots of innate talent but I'd have to say most have to work very hard they just make it look easy.  One thing they all have in common is their ability to focus. They are in the zone often and you see it time and time again. here: http://www.suzietrainsmaui.com/kody-kerbox-training-in-the-z

NEXT UP: Advanced Core Training

As a surfer and stand up paddler I need stronger core muscles for long distance and toSuzie Cooney SUP surf Maui  help me carve and turn on the waves. If your core

muscles are strong you'll have less fatigue, possibly reduced low back discomfort and your surfing and paddling will become more explosive.

If you can nail this one with grace and smooth execution with time to spare on the clock, EVERYTHING in your body will love you back and perform at higher levels. The key is to embrace it and test yourself in increments of 15 seconds.

A Killer Training Tip for All Surfers

Aloha surfers.  Here is challenging but simple tip on how to be a stronger surfer. If you were in my studio or on the beach with me right now I'd say "drop and give 20 pop ups!" Could you do it or would you puke? I hope not.

I've shared lots of articles and tips on how to be a stronger surfer but this one is one of my favorites. It's definitely challenging but offers all the elements of surfing: balance, core and strength. All of these traits are necessary to be a strong and powerful surfer.

Mark Walsh, 57 from Redondo Beach, CA

"Thanks to Suzie's help, I've been really able to step things up with my windsurfing, SUP, and motocross. At 45 years old, I was suffering from rotator cuff injuries, chronic soreness in my sciatica nerve, lack of flexibility, and endurance. Things were made worse with a professional "desk" job which limited the amount of physical activity I could do during the weekdays, leaving me with only a short time after work to be able to train and get the most out of it.

Suzie has been able to focus on strengthening specific muscle groups which had been deactivated for years, which contributed to low balance and stabilization capability. After training with her and being able to take many exercise examples home with me, my body has been in much better balance lately, and virtually all of my muscle and joint pains have disappeared. I'm now in much better shape than most of my peers who are 10 - 15 years younger, and the core training Suzie has shown me has helped a lot with injury avoidance. So when I miss a rhythm section at the track or fall off my board in an awkward manner, I don't have to worry about straining or pulling something that could sideline me for awhile."

Mahalo for having me in your corner of health and ocean fun. Please feel free to share this content with your friends.

I have more coming your way soon.

Sincerely,

Suzie Cooney
