MAKE THE MOST OF WINTER ON TORONTO'S WATERFRONT

It might be getting colder, but Harbourfront Centre has great programming all month.

Make this the winter you learn to skate. Whether you're a seasoned skater or a rookie on the ice, Learn to Skate, generously supported by RBC Learn to Play, has the perfect class for every skill level. All of the classes are held outdoors on the Natrel Rink, which overlooks Lake Ontario, so you'll enjoy a class with a view.

Take your skills to the ice every Saturday night this January. DJ Skate Nights feature the hottest DJs bringing their parties to the Natrel Rink. Yes, DJs can still spin with their mittens on!

And don't miss any of the fantastic performances this winter. NextSteps is Canada's Dance, with a full season of diverse, dynamic dance that runs until June. World Stage brings the best in global and local performance to the heart of Toronto's waterfront from January to June 2015.

CHOOSE ONE WORD TO LIVE BY IN 2015

The start of 2015 is here, which

means it's a great time to plan the changes you want to implement in o rder to reach your goals for next year and beyond.

When we make New Year resolutions, the goal is to resolve to make a change for the long term.  However, most

people just 'try out' the change for a short period of time.  Before you know it, it is mid-January and you are back to your old ways.

What if this year were different?  What if instead of making a list of many out-of-reach resolutions, you chose 'one word' to live by for the entire year.  Do you think you might have greater success in implementing it?

At Harbourfront Chiropractic their 'one word' for 2015 is HOPE.  They are about giving people hope that with a better functioning spine they can improve the quality of their lives.

WETLAND CREATION PROJECT CONTINUES
AT LESLIE STREET SPIT

The Toronto Port Authority (TPA), and Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), have begun work to turn the second of three confined disposal facilities, known as "Cell 2", at the Leslie Street Spit (the Spit) into a nine-hectare habitat for fish and wildlife.

The "cells" were designed by the TPA, to properly contain sediment they remove from the Keating Channel, to prevent future flooding of the Don River.

With "Cell 2" now filled entirely with sediment, the TPA will seal the area with a layer of soil and clay-requiring nearly 21,500 truckloads of material. Once the cell is sealed, TRCA will install native plants and wetland features, providing a new habitat for fish and wildlife. It will also expand the Spit's recreational and nature attributes enjoyed by Torontonians seeking a green oasis close to the heart of the City.

More information about the "Cell 2" project is available at: www.tommythompsonpark.ca/cell2

REJUVENATE YOURSELF WITH A CLEANSE

Have frequent headaches? Feeling tired? Have bloating and poor digestion? It may be a time for you to detoxify your body. These days we live in a world full of toxins. From the air we breathe, to the food we eat, and even our own bodily functions can be a build up of toxins in our body. Help your body eliminate toxic materials from your cells, organs and bloodstream by doing a cleanse. Start off the New Year right by rejuvenating your body.

Continue to boost your immune system during this winter by taking omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids act as immune boosters by increasing the activity of white blood cells that gobble up bacteria. They are also beneficial for memory, joint pain and inflammation, lowering cholesterol plus many more.

GARNET FOR YOUR WINTER WARDROBE

It's New Year! One of Vivah Jewellery's favorite things about January is its beautiful and appealing birthstone: Garnet.

The word Garnet comes from the Latin word granatum, which means pomegranate. The stone resembles the reddish colour and the seed-like form of the pomegranate fruit. It is also available in a wide variety of colours spanning the spectrum. However, the most commonly occurring colour is red and the rarest is blue.

Garnet is the traveler's gem: it guards you when you are far from home. It symbolizes loyalty and kindness. Furthermore, it signifies trust and friendship, which makes it an excellent gift for a friend or a loved one.

Their red Garnet jewellery collection crafted in Sterling Silver is a long-lasting gem perfect for every day wear. It's warm glow is truly captivating!

Fun Fact: In earlier times, garnets were exchanged as gifts between friends to demonstrate their affection for each other and to ensure that they meet again.
