Greetings from the Movement & Neuroperformance Center staff.

This month we celebrate two years of sustained growth serving patients in Colorado and reaching many nationwide and abroad. In this special edition newsletter, we highlight our top center developments over the past year.

"I see possibilities in everything. For everything that's taken away, something of greater value has been given."  --Michael J Fox
Patient Education and Empowerment
Dr. Giroux's focus on empowerment and patient centered care is evident in our everyday approach that has cultivated a busy clinic in just two years. We give more than lip service to holistic medical care. We maintain a thoughtful comprehensive caring approach for all of our patients. Dr. Giroux is the only neurologist with fellowship training in movement disorders and integrative medicine in the country. Her training and expertise opens a dialogue with patients interested in a holistic life-style. Patients that find Dr. Giroux gain a partner in their careDr. Giroux gives support to the Michael J Fox Foundation donating her time for special events in research and clinical care. "The MJFF meets the needs of many patients- from those just diagnosed to those in the thick of PD."  ~Dr. Giroux
Clinic Expands to Boulder

Clinical hours are now available in Englewood, Ft. Collins and our newest expansion to Boulder. Patients interested in deep brain stimulation can see Dr. Giroux and Sierra for DBS consultation, work-up and ongoing DBS programming in Boulder. The Boulder DBS team includes collaboration with fellowship trained DBS neurosurgeon, Dr. Kara Beasley. Join us for the kickoff event on September 5th at the Millennium Harvest House at 1pm. RSVP to Ingrid at 303-781-0511.

New Staff
Rachel Stertz, BS is our newest team member. Rachel joined the center team in 2014 as clinical associate and clinical research coordinator. Rachel joins our team at an exciting time as our DBS research program grows and we prepare to launch Dr. Giroux's Vitality Program. Rachel coordinates the DBS study, manages special programs to include our cognitive program and is highly knowledgeable in care coordination. Rachel is outgoing and thoughtful complementing our patient centered approach.
Operations Staff
Ingird McGruder has been with the center for over a year. We appreciate the dedication and professionalism that Ingrid brings to the job everyday. In addition to routine office management, Ingrid manages the administrative complexities of the DBS Troubleshooting Program that accepts patients world-wide working directly with Sierra to make the process as smooth as possible.
Deep Brain Stimulation Clinical & Research Program Grows

Our comprehensive DBS program has touched the lives of many living in Colorado and nationwide. Sierra has accompanied almost 100 of her patients into the operating room. Partnering with neurosurgeon Dr. Adam Hebb, patients experience outstanding results from DBS with highly precise probe placement and customized DBS programming. We are meeting our goal of high quality and very low complications. Our DBS research program includes a new device study (www.intrepidDBS.com or www.clinicaltrials.gov).

DBS Troubleshooting Clinic is Effective in Restoring Lives
Sierra has treated over 75 people seeking help with DBS since opening the center finding most people just need an adjustment in their stimulation settings. Only 8 people had revision surgery to improve their symptoms. The DBS Troubleshooting Program has helped over 300 people dissatisfied with their DBS from 45 states in the past 15 years. "Investigating why DBS does not work properly is critical for every patient to obtain the highest benefit from DBS without side effects. Read about a remarkable turn-around after replacing a misplaced probe."  ~Sierra
Foundation Physical Therapy Expands

Physical therapy is a pillar in our care plan and highly beneficial for our patients to maximize function for everyday activities and sports. Cara Dobbertin, DPT, owner of Foundation Physical Therapy, joined our team as collaborating member in 2014. Cara is a PT expert in Parkinson's disease and other neurologcial conditions directly collaborating with Dr. Giroux and Sierra for their patients undergoing therapy. Cara is member of our deep brain stimulation program. Leslie Duran, PT, a Geriatric Clinical Specialist, recently joined Cara expanding your access to expert physical therapy.

Two Patient Educational Books Released
