CYNTHIA JONES EARNS NATIONAL HONOR AS 2014 NEW YORK STATE PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR

 

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) have named Hostos Community College English Department Lecturer Cynthia Jones the 2014 New York State Professor of the Year.

A huge crowd braved frigid temperatures on November 20 to give an official warm welcome to the new CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Hostos building during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. 

Opened for business in August 2014, the new facility at 590 Exterior Street (East 150th Street between Exterior Street and River Avenue) is next to the Hostos Center for Workforce Development & Continuing Education, which opened in 2012.

HOSTOS UNVEILS PORTRAIT PAINTED BY FAMED ARTIST PABLO MARCANO GARC�A

 

 

As part of the College's Hostos175 celebration, a portrait by famed Puerto Rican artist Pablo Marcano Garc�a of Eugenio Mar�a de Hostos was unveiled in the A-Atrium on November 13.

 

Interim President David G�mez was in attendance, along with many other members of the College's extended family. President G�mez said he was thrilled to welcome such an important piece of art to the campus.   

HOSTOS VETERANS HONORED
AT SPECIAL EVENT

   

 

Several "Hostos heroes" were honored at the 7th
Annual Veterans Day Celebration prior to the men's basketball home opener on November 7.

A coordinated effort between the Hostos Athletics Department, the Office of Student Programming for Veterans and Reservists, and the Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, 19 Hostos veterans and reservists received special certificates of appreciation from Hostos President David G�mez during a reception in front of family, friends and coworkers.

AT DEAN'S LIST CEREMONY

 

Honored by family, friends, classmates, and Hostos faculty and administrators,148 Dean's List students were recognized during a special ceremony held in the Main Theater on November 18.
