Help Our Furry Friends This Holiday Season
AboutSkin Dermatology is committed to giving back to the community throughout the year. A portion of our proceeds from our Evening of Beauty event was donated to the Skin Cancer Foundation and this month we would like to help our furry friends. The Humane Society of South Platte Valley is committed to bringing people and pets together for a lifetime. This non-profit organization never turns an animal away. Their goal is to give animals a second chance with a forever family.

We are asking you, our pet loving generous patient, to consider a contribution of a pet-friendly item to our donation boxes at our offices which will be available through Dec. 31st.

As a "Thank You" for your generosity, AboutSkin is giving all donators one $10 gift certificate toward any cosmetic treatment with a doctor OR one $20 gift certificate with an aesthetician. Any donated items (no money please), would be appreciated!
Winter Skin Pitfalls

When the temperature drops, the circulation in your body is less efficient. As a result, the skin's metabolism can become sluggish, and less nutrient reach the skin surface cells. Also, the cold winter air holds less moisture than warm air.

This means that in cold, windy, damp weather, your skin tends to more easily become dry, flaky, and chapped, and may feel tight. The dehydration can exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema. Switching between extreme temperatures- going from a warm house to the cold outdoors- can worsen broken veins or rosacea.

Beat the dryness with these winter weather skin tips:

  • Gentle is more effective. Don't aggravate already dry skin by over-stripping with exfoliants. Moisturizing is key! Use a thicker cream, not a lotion.
  • Hook up a humidifier. A humidity level of 60% is a level that should be sufficient to hydrate the top layer of the epidermis.
  • Combat cracked skin on hands, lips and face with a healing balm. Try Fix My Skin 1% hydrocortisone balm available at AboutSkin.
  • Avoid the wind burn look by applying a moisturizing sunblock daily. AboutSkin offers eltaMD Facial SPF30+ or Up The Anti anti-oxidant sunscreen for extra moisture during the winter months.
