Greetings Fellow Lions,
What a privilege and honor it has been to serve as Council Chair for the Lions of South Carolina. A special thanks to the four outstanding District Governors who elected me to this high office. Thank you. As many of you know, this council and I had a very unique experience. After working together for two years as trainer and trainees they choose to keep me on and become their Council Chair. That has never happened before. But be very sure that I am grateful that it did happen. We have many challenges ahead of us in the years to come. How we meet those challenges will be determined by our commitment to our motto, "We Serve." With a deep commitment and a clear common vision of what we want South Carolina Lions to be, we can have a growing and dynamic group of "Loving Individuals Offering Needed Services."

Dear South Carolina Lions,
As we enter the final month of the 2014-2015 Lions' fiscal year, I wanted to personally write each of you with an update of South Carolina Lions Charitable Services and Foundation's accomplishments and financial position.
For those of you who are new members, or simply not familiar with South Carolina Lions Charitable Services (SCLCS), we are the official charity and major services organization for the Lions of South Carolina. Each of you, individually, are members of SCLCS. The Lions founded this organization in 1969 to provide eye surgeries, hearing aids and health screenings in your communities.

Raffles Pass, Are You Really Ready?
|
On November 4th, 2014 the long awaited raffle legislation passed with a public vote to change the South Carolina Constitution. The legislature ratified this Bill in March and raffles officially became legal on April 5th, 2015.
Although it is now legal to hold a raffle, there are many "Do's and Don't's to holding a raffle. Some of the questions needing answers before you begin your raffle are:
- Is there a fee to register to hold a raffle? Is that fee per raffle or per day?
- What can the net proceeds be used for?

Will the Secretary Of State review nonprofit organization's financial statements?

What does it mean by "a nonprofit cannot lend their name to another organization" for a raffle?
-
How should expenses be tracked if a raffle is held at the same event as a silent auction and a live auction?
-
What is the difference between an exempt raffle and a non-exempt raffle?
-
Are "Casino Nights" allowed now?
-
Is a Door Prize a Raffle?
-
Can an organization sell raffle tickets online?
-
Are nonprofits allowed to do auctions?
If you can't answer all of these questions then you most definitely need to very carefully review the presentation below. This presentation was developed and provided by the Secretary of State's office. Please read carefully and contact your District Governor if you do not understand this information.
Raffles can be a great revenue source but you must do them legally. The fines are very stiff!

June 4 -7, 2015 will be the dates of the Southeastern Lions Leadership Institute. If you have been considering furthering your leadership role in Lions, this will be your opportunity. Additionally, you will not have to travel very far as the institute will be held here in South Carolina at the School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg. Salem Lions Celebrate Successful Event
|
Salem Lions Club's 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held on May 6 at the Keowee Key? Golf course in Salem with dinner following golf at the Club at Keowee Key?. The weather was perfect for a great day of golf and fellowship.
Ninety-five golfers participated in this event in 4 Flights. As no Hole-in-One was recorded on one of the Par 3 holes, prizes for this achievement were not awarded. "Closest-to-the-Pin" prizes were claimed by several of our talented golfers.

| Many Thanks for a Successful Year |
My time as District Governor of District 32B is coming to a close. It has been great visiting all the clubs in the District, learning about your club's activities, the work that you are doing in your communities and meeting all the fine people that are Lions. I will miss this part of being Governor. There is so much going on at the club level that is not known throughout the District or State. I charge you to keep up the good work. There are so many people out there that need the help of the Lions.

Well, the time has come for me to say goodbye and to pass the torch of leadership on to Governor Bob. It has been a great year, one that I will remember the rest of my life.
It started three years ago with the election of my Council. Governors Gary, Jim, and Rick, along with Council Chair Joe, are the best group of Lion leaders that I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with. They were willing to take on challenges and make decisions on difficult issues and to make much needed changes. As they did these, they made sure that it was not done at the expense of the Vice Councils.

| Blythewood Lions Distribute Books to Students |
Lions Bob Cox and Victoria Dixon-Mokeba shopped at Scholastic Books' End of Year sale with a goal to purchase a book for every child at Carolina School for Inquiry (CSI) so that each child had a special book to take home for the summer. Together they purchased 187 books valued at over $2,000. Due to the special pricing they paid less than $150 for all the books! Lion Victoria shared that while they were shopping at Scholastic Books, the person serving them shared with them that her first pair of glasses were purchased by the Lions Club. The lady vowed to do anything to help others and to support Lions anyway that she could. Lions Bob and Victoria were touched by her story and hope that you are too

| A Celebration of 80 Years! |
The Winnsboro Lions Club celebrated its eightieth anniversary with a banquet on Friday evening, May 22, at the White Oak Conference Center in Winnsboro. Formed on May 22, 1935, the Winnsboro Lions Club proudly celebrated their heritage of service. The guest international speaker was current International Director Kembra Smith of Atlanta. Lions from across the district and state were on hand to join in a wonderful evening celebrating 80 years of Lions' service.

At the May 25th meeting of The Mathews Lions Club, Linda Bearden received a Dr. Franklin G. Mason Fellow. Due to her being unable to attend the MD 32 State Convention in Myrtle Beach, DGE David Dority presented her plaque and pin at the regular club meeting.

Past District Governor Donnie Humphries passed away May 19th. PDG Donnie was a friend of many Lions in South Carolina. District 32-D sends our thoughts and prayers to Laura and family.
