Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again in order to see the Kingdom of God. (The kingdom of God is where life as He designed it takes place.) He explained to him that there are two kinds of life- physical and spiritual. (John 3)
What we need more than anything else is to be made alive. The result of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, HE (Jesus) made you alive together with Him, having forgiven you all your transgressions. (Colossians 2:13) Just like physical life, we cannot produce our own spiritual life. We were dead. Jesus makes us alive (Revival).
For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:16-17) Jesus said in John 10 that He came that we might have life and have it abundantly. In John 14, He told us that He (Jesus) is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Him. Jesus coming to save us is the greatest act of love ever demonstrated. He saw how helpless we were and He acted on our behalf. If you ever wonder if God loves you, remember- No greater love has any man than this that He lay down His life for His friends.
God is the source of all life, physical and spiritual. He keeps our hearts beating, lungs working and blood flowing. He also breathes the Breath of life into us when we believe and accept the gift that He offers. He removes our hearts of stone (spiritual) and gives us a heart of flesh, that we will desire Him. Then we become His and He becomes ours (Ezekiel 11:19). Only when He has given us life, are we able to obey and love Him in return.
Jesus told us what true life is. This is eternal life- that you might know the only true God and Jesus whom He sent. (John 17:3) We get to know Him by learning His word. (The Bible). Don't be molded by the world any longer but be transformed (changed) by renewing your mind. (Romans 12:2) Jesus uses the analogy of a vine to illustrate our dependence on Him - I (Jesus) am the true vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, apart from Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)
Father, help us realize and acknowledge how much we need You! Thank you for loving and reaching out to broken sinful people. Thank you for being so patient with us. Amen.
