It is with great frustration that we share this with you. After fighting for years, we were able to win a historic victory for striped bass.  Now, individual states are jockeying to kill more stripers under the guise of conservation equivalency   Conservation Equivalency is an idea that has some merit.  Essentially, when management decisions are made at ASMFC, individual states have an opportunity to adjust those decisions based on their needs.  Unfortunately, many of our neighbors to the north still want to kill two striped bass.  So, they are playing with the numbers and using conservation equivalency to justify killing two big fish.  There is less chance of an angler catching a 40" fish than a 28" fish. Plans like these may fit into the statistical model but it sure as heck doesn't make any sense if you want to conserve striped bass.  New York and New Jersey are asking for a second, very large fish.  If these adjustments meet the 25% reduction, they might be accepted.  So, in the infinite wisdom of some managers, killing the largest, oldest, and most critical fish to the future of the stock is more important than conserving the resource.  We'd like you to take a look at the video from our CCA brothers in Florida.  Remember, "A conservationist is someone who knows that the world is not given by our ancestors but borrowed from our children."  That is a very powerful statement that we live by.  Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming weeks.  We are not going to take this blatant abuse of the system sitting down.  We will always fight for what is right for the future of our fisheries.  We hope that you will join us.

It is time for TieFest

TieFest 2015 is scheduled for March 7 at Prospect Bay Country Club.  Lefty, Bob Popovics, Steve Silverio, Brad Buzzi, and many others will be tying flies and telling lies again this year.  There will be fly tying shops, manufacturers, and many other attractions.  We are very excited to announce our new twist to the day.

After TieFest concludes, participants will move into the club's bar where films from the Costa Fly Fishing Film Tour (Bluefin on the Line and Jungle Fish) will be shown for approximately an hour. After that, the cocktail hour will continue and dinner will be served.

The evening will conclude with silent and live auctions including items provided by many of the featured anglers at the event.

Last year we saw important actions taken to conserve striped bass in which CCA Maryland took the leadership role," said Tony Friedrich, CCA MD executive director. Our goal now is to celebrate our achievements and further our conservation efforts so that the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Seaboard will be able to have an exceptional fishery for years to come.

Tickets will be available through our website.

CCA Maryland adds yet another chapter.

The new  Chestertown and Central Chapters have hit the ground running.  We are very proud to announce our third new chapter in less than a year.  Brad Taylor of Salisbury, MD has agreed to be CCA Maryland's newest chapter president of the new Lower Shore Chapter of CCA Maryland.   "There is much more to the lower eastern shore than our coast, and conservation minded anglers want the representation that CCA Maryland provides in the fisheries management arena" said Taylor.      " We look forward to working with the CCA Maryland leadership throughout the state, and to plan a number of great events and projects for fishermen in our region."    Way to go Brad and team!

Sincerely,
