It's March 2 and we certainly hope Spring is right around the corner.
 
This month, join us for three indoor Play Days, read about a NEW USTA youth program called Junior Team Tennis,  and see the results of the Barry Dodson and BB&T Junior Indoor Challenge tournaments.  And for those who join us in our passion to teach young children to love the game of tennis - a save-the-date for an exciting workshop right here in Rockingham County.

SUNDAYS ON THE COURT 
Free Family TENNIS Play Days. 

Come in out of the cold and join us on Sunday afternoons for FREE Family Tennis Play Days INSIDE on the courts at the Western Rockingham YMCA, and in the gym at the Eden Family YMCA and Reidsville Family YMCA. Enjoy fun tennis games and opportunities to play together as a family. No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.

USTA Junior Team Tennis for ages 8-18 is coming to Rockingham County with matches in April and May.  Come learn what it's all about at our KICK-OFF and REGISTRATION DAY on Sunday, April 12 at 3pm.  Location to be announced soon.

Experience tennis thrills, make friends and be part of a team! The game has never been more fun. Junior Team Tennis allows kids to enjoy the sport for a lifetime from the very first day of play.

Team winners will be eligible to advance to the USTA JTT Team Championships held in Lake Norman, NC in June.

Who: Young players from age 8 -18
When: 3pm-4:30 pm Sunday afternoons in April and May
Where: Location to be announced soon.

Fee is $35 per player and $20 USTA Membership for ages 11-18.  USTA membership is free for children 10 and under.  A limited number of scholarships will be available.

SAVE THE DATE for a Coach Youth Tennis workshop on Saturday June 6
We're looking forward to hosting Butch Staples for a Coach Youth Tennis Workshop here in Rockingham County on Saturday June 6 at the indoor courts at the Western Rockingham YMCA.  Butch is one of the founders of the 10&Under tennis national initiative to introduce kids to the game using FUN games and drills with age appropriate rackets and balls.

 

This 3-hour workshop is for anyone - teaching professionals, volunteer coaches, adaptive tennis program volunteers, youth age 14 and above, and parents - who have a passion for connecting young children to the game we love.

 

There is a $15 fee for this workshop and you must register online at www.coachyouthtennis.com to reserve your space.

How can you help?  Plan a tennis program for your organization. Help us make a connection in our community to introduce tennis to our youth and adults.  Share a tennis program idea.
