'Twas the day before year-end
'Twas the day before year-end and all through the town,
Not a project was stirring, there wasn't a sound;
The plans were all hung in the cabinet with care,
In hopes that funding soon would be there;
The Operator was diligently repairing pump stations,
While visions of upgrades vied with Christmas vacation;
Reports had been sent to all the right folks,
With hopes the repairs would all get good quotes;
The townspeople had visions of things to be crafting,
A nice senior center, or a brand-new boat landing.
A library would be lovely, a bike path a good treat;
And they needed a new bridge under their feet.
The downtown committee was dreaming of bids;
And the school board was planning safe routes for the kids.
The Clerk and Treasurer were nestled all snug at their desks,
While visions of grants danced in their heads;
And the Administrator with her tax cap, and I with my budget,
Had just settled down for the long winter's audit,
When out in the street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away with a dash I flew to the door,
Turned the handle and looked to see what was in store!
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a white survey truck and our MSA engineer!
And MSA's funding team, quick as two blinks,
Was there to help us find the critical links.
As they listened to our needs, wondrous things began,
A Search Grant, low-interest loans, and housing to plan!
For funding and grants, they opened their pack,
They were here to help, and had a plan of attack.
Now Safe Routes! Now CDAP! Now, Trails and LRIP!
On Legacy! On, OSLAD! On, TIDs and Stewardship!
Upgrades for the operator! And now a new town hall!
Now fund the way, fund the way, fund the way for all!
They sprang to their truck, to their teams gave a shout!
Then away they all worked getting funding dollars out.
And I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight,
Funding to all, and to all a good night!
