Public Allies NY Presents:
READ ACROSS AMERICA
Service Day

Get involved! NEA's Read Across America Day
is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on Dr. Seuss's birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by
bringing together kids, teens, and books

Public Allies NY will be hosting Read Across America this year at PS 307 in the Bronx, NY & Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY. Our Male Development Program volunteers will facilitate & support interactive literacy workshops/activities for
students, teachers, and parents!

About the Read Across America event:
We are inviting men of color to join us as Guest Readers. Our goal is to have 40+ men of color from our Public Allies NY family join us as we lead elementary school children (K-3) in fun literacy-based activities (about 20 men at each school). Join us as we share our love for reading, introduce young scholars to new role models, encourage literacy, foster learning and inspire them to achieve excellence! As a Guest Reader, a selection of cool children's books will be provided for you-or-you may share a book that was a favorite of yours growing up, or a favorite of a special child in your life. And if you would like to read but need assistance in making a reading selection, we will be happy to help.

About the Male Development Program:
The Male Development Program's mission is to utilize volunteer community service as a vehicle for change, transformation and impact for men of color and their communities.

About Public Allies:
Established in 1999, Public Allies NY's mission is to advance new leadership to strengthen communities, nonprofits, and civic participation. Utilizing an asset-based strategy, we aim to change both the face & the practice of leadership by bringing new people to proverbial leadership table & changing the tables themselves.
