July 23, 2014 Dear Community: On behalf of the Harlem youth who will have mentors this coming school year because you "stepped up" by attending or promoting the 2014 Harlem Mentoring Fair on July 15th, THANK YOU! That evening, Harlem Mentoring Fair co-presenters Total Equity Now and Harlem CARES Mentoring Movement joined forces with this year's host, the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Center (Catholic Charities Community Services Inc.), to help caring adults in our community connect with representatives from nine mentoring and youth-development organizations serving Harlem youth. As a result, dozens of young people will receive the additional support and guidance that they so desperately need in order to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential. Unfortunately, a troubling gap remains between the thousands of Harlem children who need mentors and the thousands of adults who are not in the mentoring pipeline. If most Harlem adults were to carve out just one hour a week to volunteer as a mentor in our community, thousands more children and teens would shine brighter and our community would be transformed. To guide you and yours toward making a mentoring commitment, compiled below are the contact information and social-media links of the organizations that participated in this year's fair. If you are already mentoring in Harlem, thank you in advance for taking a moment to forward this email to friends and associates who could be supporting our youth.
